Welcome to Selby College

Welcome to your local college which has an excellent reputation for student success. We are proud to have some of the best facilities and teaching and support staff at Selby College.

In December 2017, Ofsted graded the college as ‘Good’ across all areas, including quality of teaching, learning and assessment. When you come to college you will enjoy a superb learning experience in a friendly and supportive environment.

Our culture is one of high expectations, helping to ensure all students are focused on achieving their goals, whether it is to go to the university of their choice to find the career they want, a good job, or to progress to other learning options, including Higher Education courses offered here at Selby College or an Apprenticeship.

Every year, students at Selby College gain places at some of Britain’s best universities including Oxford and Cambridge. The College has a very successful Gifted & Talented ‘Horizon’ Programme designed to help learners achieve top university places. We also choose our range of A Levels wisely, to ensure they are in subjects which Russell Group universities want. We have a state-of-the-art campus that is second to none locally, packed full of the latest technology that will help you with your studies, preparing you for university and your eventual career.

Selby College has extensive links with employers. Whilst you are at College you will meet some of them, either when you are on placement as part of your course or when you participate in one of our skills competitions.

You certainly won’t be alone choosing Selby College. Each year we attract students from across the area, so it’s a great opportunity for you to make new friends.

We also have extensive transport links that ensure you can travel easily to college and back home. Learners travel from across the area to attend the College, so you will have the opportunity to make lots of new friends when you join us. Getting here is easy with both Arriva bus services, contract buses and our own fleet of minibuses.

The most important thing for you to do now is to look at which course you would like to study, then come to one of our Open Events. We will have staff and students available to talk to you in more depth about your course choice and how we can progress your application, so you secure your place.

In the meantime, if you need any more information, please call Student Services Tel 01757 211040 or email info@selby.ac.uk, send us a message via Facebook or Twitter or see our website selby.ac.uk for more information on our range of courses. Enrichment at Selby College

At Selby College we realise that your education is more than just studying, it’s also about making new friends and having new experiences. That’s why we go to great lengths to combine quality learning and success with a wide variety of enrichment activities.

Football Development Centre (FDC)

The Centre gives a platform to those players who have previously been involved with professional clubs, as well as those who have yet to be given the opportunity to showcase their sporting talents. With links to local professional and semi-professional clubs, students will have the opportunity to play at the highest level. Training is incorporated into the study programme each week, with teams coached by Level 3 coaches. Additionally, Sports Science support is provided alongside the pitch-based sessions. This includes technical, tactical and strength and conditioning coaching for all players. Massage and rehabilitation is also available to those involved in the FDC. We have a new partnership with Hull FC giving our students the opportunity to train and play rugby for the Hull FC college team and unique access to the Hull FC training ground.

Sport

Other sport teams and clubs including rugby and netball are available during lunch and to compete in AoC leagues every Wednesday afternoon. You don’t need to be on a Sport course to take part, so come and join in!

Trips and days out

We organise a variety of days out and trips to places such as Alton Towers, The Clothes Show, Flamingo Land, London, Wembley, Edinburgh, Dalby Forest, North York Moors, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the theatre, cinema and many more. Last year students headed out on more than 150 trips and excursions! Students also have the opportunity to take part in a number of trips abroad, with Berlin and Poland, a ski trip, New York, Iceland, Spain and even a Mount Everest Base Camp trip in the pipeline for this year!

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award Scheme

This award is available to those students who wish to participate in the Gold Award.

Students’ Union

We have an active Students’ Union which meets regularly to discuss college issues and represents the student body on a number of committees.
