Welcome to King Alfred's Academy
Welcome to King Alfred’s - an outstanding Academy which has been serving our community for a very long time and which offers a warm, friendly, caring, inclusive yet challenging and exciting environment for our students and staff.
Beyond our excellent examination results, we believe our ethos and philosophy fits many young people’s needs. Every student has the right to access outstanding teaching and learning in an environment where everyone is empowered and challenged to do their best and to seize every opportunity. We expect our students to behave well at all times and to respect each other and the adults who work with them.
King Alfred’s Enrichment Programme is outstanding, offering every student many opportunities to develop outside the normal classroom environment right from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. We offer an exceptional range of after-school clubs, known as Electives, believing that young people’s learning is improved through the type of active learning that takes place outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in day and residential trips within the UK to support curriculum subjects, and then to venture further afield once ready to, perhaps, the battlefields of Belgium or the Art Galleries of New York. Science trips to Europe and sport trips to Italy are offered alongside more adventurous opportunities, such as trekking in Morocco and Poland, canoeing in the Ardeche and month-long expeditions to Tanzania or Thailand.
We firmly believe in the benefits of a ‘healthy body and a healthy mind’ and see Physical Education and School Sport as essential components of our curriculum. We are also a National Teaching School, and so staff development and training is at the heart of all we do.
However, our continued success is centred on outstanding Teaching and Learning, and excellent relationships between students, staff, parents and our community. We look forward to working with you and your children over the coming years.
