Welcome to Colmers School and Sixth Form College

Colmers School has a longstanding record of excellent achievement at GCSE. Our Sixth Form is now entering its fourth year, grown rapidly, and has quickly earned a reputation for success with excellent A-Level results and very high rates of university take up. Our purpose built facilities, outstanding teaching and strong pastoral support ensure students are able to acheive excellence and leave as independent young adults.

About us

In a rapidly changing national and global economy, the importance of a first class education has never been higher. Gone are the days when a student could expect or hope to enter a prosperous labour market without appropriate qualifications and the wider skills to ensure lifelong employability.

In this locality, our students have access to superb colleges and courses which ensures that each student’s entitlement to great education and training continues beyond Year 11. Since September 2013, Colmers has added further breadth and depth to the courses and opportunities on offer in this part of Birmingham.

At Colmers Sixth Form College we will only offer a range of courses that we are confident will deliver success and guarantee interest from future employers and universities. As a school-based Sixth Form, we do not wish to compete with the larger colleges. Instead we aim to meet the needs of students interested in a particular range of subjects with the clear intention of further study at university.

Courses and grades alone do not lead to personal fulfilment or a place at university. This is why our extra-curricular programme will always be a vibrant and ever changing opportunity for students to discover even more about themselves and the world around them, making them distinctive in the eyes of future employers or university admission teams.

Above all, our Sixth Form College is a springboard into an exciting future with all the familiarity and security that characterises Colmers School and the added excitement and opportunities that post-16 education offers.

Facilities available

The purpose built Sixth Form Centre is open from 8am until 5pm each day and offers a study area, kitchen facilities, social space and outdoor area.

  • Learning Hub with laptops and study space
  • Site-wide wi-fi
  • Sports, art and music facilities.
  • Science laboratories
  • Additional silent study room

We are committed to students developing the digital literacy required of both students and employees in the 21st century. To this end we will ensure every student will have access to their own electronic learning device.

Additional support

Parents of a student with educational needs relating to a disability are welcome to discuss accessibility issues with school. Having a disability will not be an impediment for any student seeking a place in the Sixth Form. As with our KS4 provision we are able to offer an inclusive approach to the education of all young people so that they can achieve their full learning potential.

All students have their individual needs and issues. The Head of Sixth Form, Sixth Form tutor team, plus Advice and Guidance staff will provide specialist support throughout Year 12 and 13. All staff here are responsive to students’ needs and will provide personalised support throughout students’ Sixth Form life.

Learner success

Our first cohort of Year 13 students graduated in 2015 with a 100% pass rate, 27% A*-B and 100% of university applicants successfully taking up a place. 90% of applicants achieved a place at their first choice institution.  Our 2016 graduates achieved a 95% pass rate, 20% A*-B with 79% of university applicants achieving a place at their first or second choice  institution.
