Welcome to Beaminster School
We are proud of our school and its achievements across the entire curriculum.
We are optimistic about the future for our students and seek to develop their abilities in a happy, secure, stimulating and purposeful environment. The courses and extra-curricular experiences we offer are selected to allow our students to develop as individuals, and to make the most of their time with us.
The quality of our work depends upon the partnerships that we have between staff, parents, students and the wider community. We are fortunate to have good facilities, high standards of teaching, and supportive, caring staff.
We hope that our parents will play an active part in their child's education and we look forward to working with them to ensure the best outcomes for their children.
As a Christian Community school, founded in 1685, we use our strong foundations to look towards the future and to build upon the good work of our primary partners.
We operate a very successful and well-established combined Sixth Form with the Sir John Colfox School in Bridport, and our results are among the best in Dorset.
We work in partnership with other local schools, colleges and agencies to ensure that our students have wide ranging opportunities. Our aim is that all our students make the very most of their abilities and are well prepared for the journey ahead.
The majority of our students leave us to go on to university, including Russell group, and we successfully support students in gaining apprenticeships, employment or embarking on gap year travels. A range of official statistical measures show that our students make good progress.
Oxford University and Exeter University have helped our students by providing input to the very successful Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and support for students making Oxbridge applications.
Students also benefit from good links with Bryanston School, which has been generous in providing access to Sixth Form Careers and University workshop days for our students.
Involvement in the school and wider community is very important to us and students have opportunities to becomne involved through schemes such as paired reading (working with our younger students to help them improve their reading) and Sports Leaders, which involves becoming qualified to coach sports to groups of youngsters in primary schools.
Students benefit from the personalised approach that a small Sixth Form can offer, combined with the widening of experiences, opportunity and horizons that our partnership brings. We know all our students well, and this in-depth knowledge about individual students, gained over 5 years, ensures that we can continue to support them and ensure that they get the best possible outcomes. Students are assigned specialist Sixth Form Tutors who guide and support them throughout their Sixth Form experience. For full details about courses, specific entry requirements and more information about our Sixth Form, please see the Sixth Form Prospectus which is available on this site or contact Mr Barnes, Head of Sixth Form.
The partnership will arrange for students to have a direct bus from Bridport, stopping in Beaminster, and then going straight on to Yeovil College. The cost will be less than students currently pay and they will only need to be in college 2 or 3 days a week, enabling them to spend the rest of the time in the Beaminster and Colfox Sixth Form
