Welcome to The Milton Keynes Academy
The Governing Body of Milton Keynes Academy is delighted to announce that Miss Fiona Seddon has been appointed as the new Principal for Milton Keynes Academy with effect from the start of the 2016/17 academic year.
Following the decision of the existing Principal, Mr Dara Carroll, to retire at this time following five years at the helm, the Governing Body has been involved in a rigorous recruitment process to ensure the right candidate was appointed to build on the successes achieved under Mr Carroll’s time as Principal, and to take the Academy on to the next stage of its development.
Dr Philip Smith, Chair of the Governing Body said “Under Dara’s leadership the Academy has made great progress, becoming recognised in that time as one of the fastest improving schools in the country, and being rated by Ofsted as having outstanding leadership.
This was a vital recruitment for us, and we are therefore thrilled to have appointed Fiona as the new Principal. Fiona is currently Deputy Head of Thomas Telford School, which has been consistently one of, if not the, very best performing comprehensive school in England. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, and we are sure she will quickly be able to consolidate and build on the success the Academy has achieved over the past five years under Dara’s leadership.
Mr Dara Carroll commented “It has been a real privilege to have led the Academy over the past five years. There is a great deal that has been achieved. However, none of this would have been possible without the excellent support from a great many people, including the Governing Body, staff, and from the local community, and of course parents and students. There is a planned hand over in place to ensure a smooth transition to Fiona, who I have no doubt will be an outstanding Principal for the Academy”.
Fiona Seddon added “I am really excited and honoured to be appointed as the new Principal of Milton Keynes Academy. Under my leadership the school will remain committed to the local community which it serves, and to its mission to be an inclusive school in which ‘everyone achieves’.
I am passionate in my belief that all young people are entitled to an inspiring and engaging education which enables them to achieve meaningful and productive futures. Every student ought to be able to embark on a future career as well as make a positive contribution to society. ”
