Welcome to Thomas Knyvett College

About us

Choosing the right school for you son or daughter is a difficult but crucial decision. I am very pleased to commend to you Thomas Knyvett College as a school with a very exciting future. For the last three years it has been in a federation with Howard of Effingham School, a highly succesfull Surrey comprehensive, which was judged by Ofsted to be an "outstanding school" in February 2009. Governors of both schools have formalised this federation by forming The Howard Partnership Trust and as Executive Head of both schools I am accountable for the performance of each. I am very fortunate indeed to have such a talented Head of School as Mrs Aboud who is responsible for day-to-day leadership and management of the college, which allows me to concentrate on the strategic future of both schools. The focus of the partnership is to provide a quality education for all its students. This is achieved through our student-centred approach where the student, i.e. the child, lies at the heart of everything we do and through them the family and the community. In “bringing out the best” we will do all we can to ensure that every student fulfils his or her potential and achieves more than they ever thought they would. Although the first such venture in Surrey, collaborations of this sort are growing in number over the whole country as schools come to realise the tremendous potential of working in partnership. This collaboration has already reaped considerable benefits for the students, staff, and communities of both schools. From a Thomas Knyvett perspective we have seen a considerable rise in standards to become one of the most improved schools in the country as recognised by Jim Knight, Minister of Education in January 2009. In the most recent inspection in February 2009 Ofsted's judgement for Thomas Knyvett College was that the teaching and learning are 'good'. This achievement was further acknowledged with the college successfully gaining combined specialist status designation as a Mathematics and Computing and Arts college from 1 September 2009. Having achieved this unique specialism we are building on our substantial experience of outstanding performances in Drama, English, Mathematics and ICT. I encourage all prospective parents to visit the college and meet the students and staff. We will be happy to outline our own philosophy on education and share with you our future plans of which I very much hope you will want to be become a part.
