Welcome to Townsend CofE School

As the only Church of England secondary school in this area, we offer something special: a long tradition of a high quality education which develops the personality and talents of every child in our care. The School is open to everyone and you do not have to go to Church to apply for admission - children of other faiths and those of no faith are very welcome at Townsend.

About us

The Sixth Form at Townsend Church of England School occupies a dedicated Sixth Form Centre occupying an entire wing of the school buildings at the west end of the school site.

We cater for the needs of all students by the provision of excellent facilities, first rate teaching and supportive guidance.

The Sixth Form centre contains a purpose designed study room equipped with IT equipment and generous work area spaces. This is complemented with a stylish sixth form common room with a fully equipped kitchen area, soft seating and caf style seating. Both of these rooms overlook an attractive landscaped garden area with further seating areas. The whole Sixth Form Centre is also served with a fast wireless broadband connection providing internet access to support student learning. The further addition of three dedicated classrooms, meeting rooms and office space make this the perfect working environment for those with the ambition and drive to achieve.

The Sixth Form classes are taught by a wide range of teaching staff in the school providing a wealth of experience and expertise. Staff adopt a wide variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual students and groups. Students also have the opportunity to take part in many extracurricular trips and activities to complement their learning in school.

Sixth Form students are grouped in mixed age tutor groups that allow the development of new relationships and the sharing of experiences. Each tutor is responsible for the development of the students in their group and provides guidance and encouragement throughout the year as appropriate to prepare students for life in modern Britain. A complementary programme of tutor activities, assemblies and Learning for Life lessons also provide a rounded programme to help promote students spiritual moral, social and cultural development.
