We are delighted that New College Durham has been graded as outstanding by Ofsted. Plus, our excellence and innovation has been recognised by the awarding of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) Beacon Status.

Our overall success rate places us in the top 10% of all colleges nationally for performance.  Not only that, but our student achievements and retention rates are among the best in the country!

Our support for students both inside and outside of the classroom is also one of our key strengths with 94% of students, who join a course at the College, completing their studies, which is 5% above the national average.

Facilities available

Our £35 million campus offers an impressive range of buildings, facilities and resources to give you a modern and stimulating learning environment, complemented by the most up to date learning materials, IT facilities and resources.

There are plenty of places to eat, including the food court and Sports Café, with an on-site Starbucks and Costa Coffee. For something a bit different you can visit the Le Nouveau Restaurant where our catering students provide a wide range of delicious meals. Students can also visit the POD shop for everything from sandwiches and tea, to soft drinks and chocolate bars.

We provide services for students and the general public alike. Halo, our hair and beauty salon offers everything from hair cuts to fake tans. Musicians can take full advantage of our recording studios and rehearsal rooms, whereas fitness fans will enjoy the Steps2Fitness gym which houses all the latest cardio and weight machines.

Additional support

We offer a range of services from careers guidance and financial advice, to counselling and help with getting to College.

ASC (Advice Support Careers)

ASC can provide you with an impartial and confidential service if you need careers guidance or advice on student finances or personal counselling.

Learner Support

We have a dedicated team of Learner Support staff for students with disabilities and/or specific learning difficulties.

Personal Learning Coaches (PLCs)

The Personal Learning Coaches provide personalised support and guidance to learners in College.


If English is not your first language then our ESOL courses will help you develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
