Welcome to New College Leicester

New College Leicester aims to provide an education of the highest quality, developing all students to achieve their potential.

We believe that all students have individual talents, different hopes and aspirations, and it is our job to ensure that each one grows and flourishes at New College.

Students will be encouraged to play an active part in the life of the College, to care about the community and behave in an acceptable and considerate manner.

We look forward to working with you in the next phase of your education.

About us

Our vision is to provide an outstanding educational experience for every student who joins us. Our aim is to be a high achieving institution in which we achieve “Outstanding Progress for All”.

New College Leicester maximises the achievement of every student and excels in its standards of teaching, learning and service. It is a place where talent is liberated, success is celebrated and achievement triumphs.

We believe that educational success depends upon establishing a close relationship between staff, students and their parents/carers, in an environment in which we can learn and achieve together. In such a climate of co-operation, determination and support, we have shown that anything is possible.

We will have high expectations of you: we look for commitment to, and responsibility for, your own learning and we will foster this through very good teaching, advice and support. We will help you to learn and to manage your time efficiently and to develop sufficient self-discipline to pursue your studies and to lead a happy, healthy and full life in and out of college.

Our Sixth Form is a happy blend of newcomers, who are made particularly welcome, and students continuing with the New College Leicester experience. All come together to contribute to a very diverse, stimulating and interesting college community.

We will ensure that you are supported and challenged in equal measure so that you are ready to take that next step in life – either continuing on your educational journey into Further or Higher Education or entering employment or an apprenticeship.

Facilities available

New College Leicester is a vibrant and exciting place to study. We have a dedicated and supportive team of staff who work to ensure that students make outstanding progress. Our lessons provide challenge, a range of teaching styles and opportunities for the students to learn and to thrive.

Our excellent facilities enable our students to have access to a wide range of learning resources; these include an excellent post-16 centre with IT facilities, a well-stocked library, purpose built football facilities, a Gymnastics Centre and a sports hall. You will have the opportunity to take part in the enrichment opportunities that the College provides, such as, the paired-reading scheme which enables post-16 students to help younger students to develop their literacy skills and you will also have the opportunity to join the College’s sports teams. Students studying at New College Leicester will enrich their studies by undertaking work experience in a sector relevant to their chosen study pathway and by taking an active role in the National Citizenship Service programme (NCS).

Additional support

We have a fantastic team of teaching assistants who provide help and support in lessons and mentoring sessions. There are also a number of homework and extra-curricular activities to support our students. All post-16 students are allocated to a tutor group; the tutor takes a leading role in target-setting with the students and reviewing the students’ progress. The tutor and the Head of Post 16 will also support the students to take the next steps in their learning and career pathways, whether this is further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Learner success

New College Leicester’s 16 to 19 study programmes were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in November 2017. The results in 2017 showed that attainment is very high for academic and vocational courses. Both of these were above national averages.

The Inspection report of November 2017 stated that, ‘Impartial careers advice enables students to take effective next steps into education or employment. As a result of this good provision, all students progressed to higher education or employment for the past three years.’
