Welcome to New College Leicester

New College Leicester aims to provide an education of the highest quality, developing all students to achieve their potential.

We believe that all students have individual talents, different hopes and aspirations, and it is our job to ensure that each one grows and flourishes at New College.

Students will be encouraged to play an active part in the life of the College, to care about the community and behave in an acceptable and considerate manner.

We look forward to working with you in the next phase of your education.

About us

New College Leicester is an 11-18 community college serving over 900 students, based towards the west of Leicester city. It is a Foundation School with a Charitable Trust.

The Trustees, Governors and all of the staff at the college are passionate about our mission to provide an education and service which results in “Outstanding progess for all” – for both students and staff.

We understand that individual students have individual talents with a variety of hopes and aspirations. It is our job to ensure that each one grows and flourishes here at New College Leicester.

We have very high expectations of our students and work closely with them to identify any specific needs and support they may require.

We encourage parents to take a full and active involvement in their child’s education at New College Leicester. We believe that close partnership with parents ensures that every student achieves as much as they can in their time with us. Students are expected to play an active part in the life of the college, to care about, and contribute to the community and to treat one another with mutual respect.

Our most valuable resource is our staff; whether they are teachers, support staff or volunteers, they contribute to the students’ welfare and progress. We only employ people who share our energy and passion about making a difference to the lives of young people. We give all our staff and volunteers the support, challenge and training for the work they do in the College to ensure that their work meets the high quality and standards we expect.

We are proud of our links with the local community and are eager to grow and develop these further. We welcome and encourage community groups to use our fantastic college facilities and work with us to put New College Leicester at the heart of our local community.

Facilities available

The college has many high class facilities and we welcome use of these by local community groups and individuals. Many groups use our facilities in the evenings and on weekends.

Additional support

We have a fantastic team of Teaching Assistants who provide help and support in lessons and via mentoring sessions. There are also a number of homework and extra-curricular activites to help support our students.

Learner success

The curriculum at New College is personalised to cater for the needs of all learners and is extended to allow wider opportunities for students to grow. By having flexibility in the curriculum, adjustments can be made that are responsive to the needs of both individuals and groups of students as they progress through the college.

There are five key principles underpinning the design of the college’s curriculum.

• All students have access to a broad, balanced and coherent curriculum that stretches them intellectually and is relevant to their needs.

• A strong core curriculum (English and Mathematics) ensures that basic skills are embedded at an early stage so that students are able to access the wider curriculum.

• A curriculum that is fully personalised and inclusive and meets the needs of individual students at every Key Stage.

• An extended curriculum that ensures all students have access to support, extension and enrichment opportunities.

• Encouragement of a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and discovery that will prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life beyond the college
