Welcome to Shoreham Academy

Welcome to Shoreham Academy - a vibrant and thriving school at the heart of the communities of Shoreham and Southwick.

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make on their behalf. At Shoreham Academy we aim not only to match parents' expectations of what a school should offer their child but to exceed them. Within a welcoming and supportive environment, we provide a stimulating and engaging education designed to give every child the chance to achieve their potential.

We are an outstanding 11-18, non-selective academy where everyone - staff and students - strive to be the best that they can be.  We see each child as an individual and seek to give them an education which best suits their abilities and interests. By the time they leave the academy, we want students to be confident, responsible and articulate individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to make a real success of their lives.

We focus on the whole child and so our broad and balanced curriculum is complemented by a wide ranging and exciting programme of extra-curricular activities. There is something for every child at Shoreham Academy - whatever their interests, whatever their abilities. All students participate in the ‘Shoreham Academy Experience’ with the expectation of fulfilling a number of ‘pledges’ in preparation for adult life.

Our Academy sponsor is United Learning whose vision and commitment is to develop the ‘the best in everyone’. UL's wealth of experience and expertise in education undoubtedly helps us to bring out the best in all of our students.

Having moved into completely new buildings in 2012, we can promise the very best facilities and an outstanding learning environment for your child. The staff and students are proud of our academy and its achievements and welcome visitors at all times. To see for yourself what the Academy can offer, please come to one of our Open Days or make an arrangement to visit us at another time.

I very much look forward to welcoming you to Shoreham Academy.

About us

Shoreham Academy Principal Jim Coupe says that “Shoreham Academy Sixth Form is the natural choice for our lower school students and local community because it strives for the best in everyone and expects all students to achieve their full potential. This is realised through the provision of an outstanding teaching and learning culture, positive mind-set, hard work and high aspirations”.

We have a clear and ambitious vision of working with the staff and students to develop a learning culture at Shoreham Academy that produces truly exceptional success. We look forward to welcoming you to Shoreham Academy Sixth Form which is built upon our mission statement;

“Aspirational, hard-working, positive learners with excellent grades”

Shoreham Academy’s Sixth Form is about much more than spending another two years at school; it is about exploring subjects you enjoy in greater depth, excelling in essential qualifications, discovering new talents, supporting the community and developing leadership skills. Shoreham Academy Sixth Form students receive first-class support and guidance as they make important and exciting decisions about your future.

Additional support

The level of support offered to our students is second to none, whether it be personal or learning support that is required.

On a personal level, our pastoral manager is able to help, linking up with external agencies where appropriate. She is also our initial contact for volunteering in the community through OUTSET.

Our study supervisor is available to facilitate independent learning. Careers guidance being one of her areas of expertise, she is also able to offer advice and assist students applying for apprenticeships.

Every sixth form student has a personal mentor, who will guide them through their time in the sixth form via group as well as one- to- one sessions.  Year 12’s also receive an individual interview that prepares the students to be able to articulate their aspirations, demonstrate what they have done and describe why their personal qualities and abilities will enable them to be successful at a particular university course, apprenticeship or job

The mentor programme is designed to support students’ learning and their onward progression, whether it be into higher education or employment. In addition, there are three PSHCEe days per year, which have a wider focus.

Potentially high achieving students may be offered additional activities such as the Raising Opportunities programme and the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and/or the United Learning University Fellowship programme which is aims to ensure that capable students gain access to the top universities.

Additional Mentor Period Support (in addition to Mentor meetings).
