Welcome to Turton High School & Sixth Form College

I am delighted that you are interested in joining Turton Sixth Form and I hope this prospectus will give you a flavour of what life is like at Turton. We pride ourselves in offering a friendly and supportive atmosphere, understanding that all our students are individuals and so will have differing needs. We are a school sixth form, and so benefit from many opportunities linking with the younger students. However, we have our own purpose-built sixth form centre which means that we are independent of the main school. I believe we are the perfect size for a sixth form: small enough to be able to offer a personal approach with small class sizes and a community atmosphere, but large enough so that you are able to meet students from a range of different backgrounds and have the freedom to reach the next stage in your personal development. Whoever you are, and wherever you’re from, you will quickly settle and become a Turton student. We offer a wide range of A-level courses alongside a personalised programme of enrichment opportunities. Around three-quarters of our students go onto university with offers from some of the top institutions including Oxford, Cambridge and many of the rest of the Russell Group. Others follow a different path, and we are constantly building links with companies offering Higher Level Apprenticeships. I believe that there is something special about Turton and I look forward to welcoming you here so that you can see it for yourself.

Mrs Kelly Bali Head of Sixth Form

About us

Turton Sixth Form has a strong academic tradition in which around four hundred studens follow Advanced Level courses.  We pride ourselves on the inclusion and service we provide, and as a consequence, around a third of the students in college have joined us from other schools in the area.  The summary information also contains comments from current students.

We aim to have a maximum of 20 students in a class with the majority having an average of 15.  As such, a personal relationship develops between the students and their teachers.  Students are consequently respected as individuals with their own needs and aspirations and are not just viewed as a roll number.  The high expectations and outstanding examination results are a key feature of how successful the students are, however, this is enhanced by the individual support they receive, in particular with regard to University applications.

"I was really grateful for all the help and guidance I received which gave me the confidence when completing my HIgher Education application"

Turton also offers opportunities for personal and social development through a range of activities, events and our enrichment programme. To enhance your learning, subject departments run a range of activities and trips.  Whether it be a field trip to Snowdonia in Geography, a visit to an ice cream farm in Food or a visit to Westminster in Politics, the staff are dedicated to making your learning experience as enjoyable and as varied as possible.

You will have great fun learning at Turton Sixth Form, whilst also developing skills which will provide a solid platform for a successful transition to Higher Education, training or employment.

In order to provide students with the opportunity to pick up a new skill, maintain a present interest or to be able to add something to their personal statement for Higher Education applications we have a dedicated tutorial programme. Additionally, we have a vibrant student council who organise a range of activities including fundraising for charties and termly socials. We also have our own student magazine written and produced by students.

The Sixth Form College is located in North East Bolton and is easily accessible.  Whilst it lies on several bus routes many students use the train as we are eight minutes, just two stops, from Bolton.  The college is across the road from Bromley Cross Station.

The two year experience is very much seen as a preparation for the next stage whether this be in Education or Employment, and we are proud of the achievements of current and past students.
