Welcome to Lordswood Sixth Form Centre
A warm welcome to all prospective Lordswood Sixth Form students.
Lordswood Sixth Form Centre has developed from the two separate sixth forms at Lordswood Girls' and Lordswood Boys' Schools to a joint co-educational and culturally diverse sixth form of around 300 students. This enables us to offer a wide range of courses and qualifications tailored to the needs of the individual as well as a variety of opportunities designed to enrich your educational experience and prepare you for the challenges of the work beyond age 18.
Choosing a place of study post-16 is an important decision as so much of your future success depends on the skills, experience and qualifications gained during this phase of your education. At Lordswood Sixth Form Centre we commit to providing you with excellence in teaching as well as personalised support to help you on your educational journey. In return, we expect commitment and hard work, regular attendance and good punctuality, the timely completion of assignments and a willingness to get involved in the wider life of the sixth form and the local community. The excellent results and progress achieved by our students, their outstanding successs in gaining places on competitive university and apprenticeship programmes as well as the feedback that they give us, suggest that this ethos leads to successful outcomes.
We do hope that you will want to join this high achieving, inclusive and forward thinking community whose success is rooted in a genuine partnership between staff and students.
Head of Sixth Form
Together we aspire, we discover, we excel
We believe that:
Lordswood Sixth Form Centre is exceptional, outstanding in the quality of all its learners. We are all learners; learning is enriching, enjoyable and lifelong. We learn from each other. Academic achievement is a vital, but not exclusive, indicator of success. An effective, rounded education engages the whole person and extends beyond the academic.
The quality of Lordswood Sixth Form Centre lies in the richness of its aspirations, the commitment of its learners and the quality of the relationships within and beyond the school building. Our past success informs our present practice and will be the foundation, but not the limitation, of our future growth.
At Lordswood Sixth Form Centre, we are passionate about securing success and progression for all students and our broad curriculum is key in delivering this aim. Students will experience a curriculum that meets their needs, abilities and aspirations, whilst also preparing them for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life.
With the introduction of the Raising Participation Age (RPA), where students are required to stay in education or training until they are aged 18, it is important that students follow a curriculum that allows them to progress. Here at Lordswood Sixth Form Centre, personalised pathways are offered to students. This allows students the opportunity to combine traditional subjects with vocational and skill based qualifications should they wish to do so. A range of enrichment courses complement the curriculum on offer and students are encouraged to participate in these.
Our post-16 curriculum aims to offer opportunities for high achievement and a range of experiences. A varied and broad range of courses offered at different levels aims to meet both your interests and potential. Further education at Lordswood Sixth Form Centre no only enhances employability, but also helps to develop you as a well-rounded and engaged member of society.

On entry to Lordswood Sixth Form Centre, students are allocated to a Review Group which is overseen by a Review Tutor. The Review Tutor has responsibility for the academic progress and welfare of each student. As well as overseeing the day to day well being of students, Review Tutors also set targets and monitor achievement through individual reviews which provide opportunities for students to discuss any problems. Further support is available from the Sixth Form Team.
In addition, there is a programme of careers education which plays an important part in preparing students for adult life and the world of work in a changing society. Lordswood Sixth Form Centre also works closely with an independent careers advisor who supports students in making the appropriate careers choices and who is available at Parents’ Evenings to advise on choices and pathways.
Students following vocational courses will undertake work experience that is specifically related to their area of study and forms a compulsory element of these courses. In Year 12, students will have the opportunity of engaging in extended work experience to give them an insight into the world of work and to allow them to consider their strengths and interests.
At Lordswood Sixth Form Centre we work very closely with parents to ensure the best results for our students and value their support in helping us to achieve our aims. We recognise that one of the key factors in a student’s success is the relationship between home and school. Consequently, parents are regularly updated about their son or daughter’s progress and informed of school events and developments in a variety of ways including Lordswood Sixth Form Centre website where there are weekly on-line parent bulletins, termly newsletters, information evenings together with full subject and interim reports.
