About us

We provide a vibrant learning environment in a leafy campus setting, located five minutes away from Bolton town centre.  At Thornleigh Sixth Form everybody can fulfil their potential and opportunities available to all are limitless.  We pride ourselves on the bespoke package of qualifications that we offer to each of our learners.  Most choose to complete a range of A Level and BTEC courses, whilst we also provide a number of one year GCSE courses.  We are also proud of the qualifications rich package that we are able to offer students who are not quite ready to make their transition to a larger college environment.  We also offer level 1 foundation studies for those who wish to access college courses.

With over 350 students we are able to provide all students with opportunities to meet new people and develop more friendships yet at the same time be recognised as the individual that you are.  Your teachers will very quickly get to know you and nurture your unique characteristics and talents to ensure that you are the very best that you can be.  We invite you to come and experience for yourself the very special place that is recognised by all who visit.

Facilities available

Thornleigh Sixth Form is based in a purpose built building that can accommodate 350 students.  We have a newly refurbished Resource Centre that is open until late at night with learning pods available for students to “break out” and do group work.  The Sixth Form has a common room where students can complete less formal study and also get refreshed at the Sixth Form Café.  As well as having four ICT suites students can use a range of technologies both in and out of lesson.  We boast iPads, palm tops, 3D technology, green screens and a host of networked computers within the resource centre.  We have specialist areas for Dance, Drama and Sport.

Additional support

We expect our students to work hard, but not in isolation.  All of our students will have a Group Tutor who will support them throughout the year.  You will also receive a Learning Mentor who will meet with you to discuss ways to enhance your academic performance.  During the year the tutorial programme will support you as you start to broaden your horizons and think about life after Thornleigh Sixth Form.  This means that you will receive information and guidance on careers, applying to universities and other opportunities that you might like to benefit from.  We take our role in your life seriously and will offer all the necessary support that we feel is necessary to get you to where you want to be.

Learner success

Students’ progress from Thornleigh Sixth Form to a range of universities, apprenticeships and jobs.  The career paths that our students follow are varied and demonstrate the qualities that have been nurtured whilst with us.  Recent successes include places at Oxbridge, medicine, law and dentistry but we are most proud of the fact that our students leave us happy and with the skills and qualifications to fulfil their potential.
