Welcome to Staffordshire University Academy

THE HEAD OF SIXTH FORM

We would like to welcome you to SUA6 - the sixth form at SUA. Our sixth form offers a wide range of academic and vocational courses.

We aim to provide you with an enriching sixth form experience that will provide you with the challenge and support to prepare you for your future aspirations. We set high standards in our sixth form and we encourage our students to always try hard and to be the best that they can be.

Academic provision is a key focus of our sixth form experience, there are also enrichment opportunities such as university visits, regular work experience throughout the year, a UCAS programme to guide you through the process for applying to university and team building visits in the form of activity days and cultural visits. We have a full programme of information, advice and guidance to support you with your next steps. Our staff at SUA are a highly committed and dedicated team; we believe this helps to create a friendly and supportive environment to encourage students of all abilities to aim high and achieve the outcomes they are capable of.

If you are not already a member of SUA and wishing to join us from another school then we welcome your application. We are a small and friendly community that fully embraces our academy motto of Aspire, Believe, Achieve! Students who complete their studies in our sixth form go onto university, further education, apprenticeships or straight into the work place. 62% of our 2016 Year 13 leavers achieved a place at university.

We have every confidence that in choosing to study at SUA6 you will achieve the qualifications and develop the necessary life skills ready for your chosen pathway after sixth form. Please do get in touch if you would like to visit our academy and find out more about studying at SUA6.

Mr Andrews

Assistant Principal - Head of Sixth Form

About us

In November 2013 we moved into a state of the art brand new academy building. The academy has a purpose built Sixth Form Centre and offers the latest technologies to support teaching and learning. All Sixth Form students have access to their own suite of high quality ultra-book computers.

Students are encouraged to take part in sporting activities within the academy or to get involved with local community projects – or to develop their own projects. This may involve working in a charity shop, supporting the local community with ICT training or helping to prepare and be part of a team that organises our Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party.

Facilities available

Other notable points about the new building are:

State of the art Teaching and Learning

 £700,000 investment in ICT

  •  iMac suite
  •  1-2-1 Device Scheme
  •  Green screen studio
  •  Radio station
  •  Brand new sports hall
  •  Enhanced outdoor space
  •  Modern facilities and resources
  •  Industry standard catering equipment

Additional support

In our Sixth Form we operate a tutor group system, similar to the main academy but groups are smaller. The tutor is the first port of call for our students and they deliver many different activities that are relevant to our students. Tutors support our students when they apply to university and also when preparing CVs for future employment. Great emphasis is placed on ensuring that all students are on the right courses and all Year 11 into 12 students receive guidance meetings and reviews of their work. Advice and guidance is regularly provided in the academy so that students are aware of what options are available for them once they complete their Sixth Form education. Tutors have an active role in the academy and they monitor attendance and punctuality alongside the Sixth Form Pastoral Manager and the Head of Sixth Form. Reports are prepared on a regular basis along with opportunities to meet subject teachers. Exam results are available in August each year and each year students have a progression interview to aid with their transition into Year 13 and to ensure that they are focused on their future exams and aspirations.

Learner success

“Studying at Staffordshire University Academy Sixth Form has been a brilliant learning experience for me. The support that I received from staff in helping me work towards my goal was overwhelming and they always had time for me and other students. With their help, I have been able to pursue my dream of studying Journalism at my top choice university. I wouldn’t have achieved the grades I did if it had not been for this Sixth Form. It was the best decision I ever made.”

“Staffordshire University Academy Sixth Form is a great place to study. The staff within the school are always willing to help with work. Tutors and the Sixth Form Team provided me with a great amount of support with my UCAS and career aspirations both in school and after school. This support meant that I was able to succeed and I am now reading Sport and Exercise Science at Wolverhampton University.”
