As the Director of Sixth Form I hope that you will consider joining in our success and look forward to welcoming you to our Sixth Form Open Evening on 2nd November 2017.
Director of Sixth Form
As a Sixth Form our success has enabled us to grow in numbers and this has enabled us to offer a number of different pathways, whether that be Level 3 academic A levels, Level 3 vocational qualifications or Level 2 courses. This enables us to offer a set of subjects that meet the needs of our learners.
Many of our students embark on traditional academic A Levels to enable them to go on to University. Others take a more vocational route for example in Music, Performing Arts, Science, Child Care or Health and Social Care and many go to University whilst others move in to relevant careers in their areas of specialism.
We offer a range of level 2 qualifications for students needing the extra year to achieve enough GCSE equivalents to start A levels. Many succesfully complete the year and go on to complete A Levels or Level 3 BTECs and then go on to University.
What is most pleasing is that with a significant increase in numbers we have also improved our results and look forward to continuing to do so. I hope you choose to join in our success.
Queen Katharine has a large Sixth Form area which is available for study througout the day and in to the evening. This has study areas and a significant number of computer facilities. The lessons are taught around the school with some lessons in smaller seminar rooms and other in normal classrooms. In all classooms there are interactive whiteboards. There is also an e-learning centre with computers available for use by students and learning resource centre with both computers for quite study and a range of academic books to support study.
The Director of Sixth Form, offers support as required by students to support them in achiveing to their fullest potential. This might be in offering support in study techniques but also when students are facing challenging circumstances inside and outside school. He will utilise resources with school and outside agencies to ensure students get the support hey need.
The Sixth Form has a Progress Lead who will monitor students progress and intervene to support students in achieving their best. He also works to ensure students get the advice and support they need when applying for University.
We have an Intensive Advisor who offers advice on careers, university and supports students to secure the best chances of achieving their goals. She will also organise activtities through the year to support with UCAS, finance, taster days and apprenticeships.
We also have a Student Advisor who will monitor and support with attendance and bursary to ensure students who need financial support receive the relevant bursary payments.
Sixth Form students will be in Sixth Form tutor groups and this is invalauble in ensuring students get support in settling in to Sixth Form life and ensuring they get expert support with UCAS and so they make the most of the opportunities available to them.
