Welcome to Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Technology College

Head’s Message

I am very proud to introduce you to Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Technology College. We are a small school with a big heart. Much of what makes us so special is our belief: we believe in our students, our staff and in our ability to be the best we can be.

‘Believe’ is our new school motto. I was fortunate to have two teachers who believed in me, even when I didn't, and without their support and encouragement I would not be where I am today. It is vital our students feel special and strive to improve themselves in all aspects of their lives.

This website will give you a flavour of what makes Dame Elizabeth an exciting place to be and a special place of learning in south Birmingham. Whether you are a regular visitor or if this is your first time here I hope you will enjoy browsing the site and discovering what makes Dame Elizabeth so unique.

The coming academic year is greatly exciting. We have spent the last academic year securing rapid improvements in teaching and learning across school and this coming year will see these improvements embedded and refined. We are investing in teaching areas to secure outstanding teaching and learning and are very fortunate to have received £151,000 from a generous benefactor. We have used this to further improve facilities for students and staff. Nearly all faculty areas now have a computer room in which to teach; the student to computer ratio is very close to 2:1. All faculty areas have a work room for staff to prepare lessons and we have two state of the art teaching and learning rooms to enhance teachers’ effectiveness, supporting all teachers to plan and deliver outstanding lessons.

We insist on the best for our students. Our school year now commences in June and our key stage 3 is two years long. This enables us to have an extra year undertaking GCSE courses where students are guaranteed their option choices. All students have the opportunity to achieve the English Baccalaureate which is increasingly becoming an important qualification for students who want to continue in high level further education.

We continue to place student achievement at the heart of all we do. From September we will send home a progress report every half term (instead of termly) to show how well your child is achieving in all their subjects. All students who are not making expected progress will have extra support coordinated by faculty leaders or by the attainment team, with students’ academic mentors playing a key role in this. To support your child's progress it has been proven that they need to be in school: students who have an average attendance of below 95% (one day off a month) run the risk of falling below their target grades. Please send your children in to school unless they are too unwell, and continue to support us by taking holidays out of term time and making medical appointments out of school hours where possible.

I am looking forward to an outstanding start in September and wish you all a happy and successful year of learning and achieving at Dame Elizabeth.

About us

Post 16

Our school is unique in that we have our own established sixth form which provides our students with a range of pathways towards their individual careers, all packaged up in to a carefully tailored and bespoke programme.  All our students have a natural progression from year 7 into the sixth form and courses are designed to meet their interests and needs.  We believe that knowing our students really well ensures that the transition from main school to sixth form can be seamless.  Students receive outstanding advice and guidance about their progression and careers route from a dedicated team led by our Head of Sixth Form.

We have developed partnerships with Newman University, sports coaches from Manchester City Football Academy and commercial industry to allow us to offer a myriad of courses and work experience. Whether students are studying traditional A levels  or Vocational equivalents, aspiring to university,  apprenticeships or the world of work, Dame Elizabeth’s track record shows that students are sure to succeed.

At Dame Elizabeth we offer the opportunity for our year 7 students to grow and develop into adults in one establishment which allows them access to the world of work and university.

Facilities available

We have two 6th form ICT suites, a brand new common room complete with independent study areas and we have a wide range of high specification classrooms available to 6th form lessons across the school site.
