Facilities available

We encourage all of our students to become independent learners.

We aim to equip you with the skills to access your college curriculum and also to aid your progression to higher education or employment. To this end we provide a variety of facilities to support your learning.

At the centre of the college is the freshly refurbished Learning Resource Centre which provides a calm and well equipped independent study area. You will have access to current publications, DVDs and a range of newspapers and magazines, as well as computers that are linked to a high-speed network with full internet access.  The college has a student virtual learning environment ‘miplace’ where you can access subject information, progression advice and many other areas to support your studies.

Extensive and modern IT facilities are also available across the college, as well as student study areas. You will be able to produce high quality coursework using many different software packages, such as Photoshop and Sony Vegas, and other interactive audio and visual equipment: Iflip cameras are used to record learners’ work and allow them to instantly review it. Subject areas generally operate an open access policy to allow you the maximum time using college facilities and opportunities to seek advice and support from staff. Wednesday afternoon is also used to provide extra subject workshops and revision classes, which supplement guided learning hours.

Additional support

Individual support is offered through a personal advisor system and large Learning Development Team. Workshops and one to one sessions are timetabled according to individual needs to offer specific support in areas such as Literacy and Numeracy as well as general help with time management and subject specific tasks. Every student develops an Individual Learning Plan with their personal advisor based upon regular feedback from subject staff and information from your initial skills assessments.
