Welcome to Hamstead Hall Academy

Welcome to Hamstead Hall Community Learning Centre

About us

Hamstead Hall is a Community Learning Centre, serving the local area of Handsworth Wood. The centre caters for 1100 students across the range from 11-18 and reflects the religious and cultural diversity of the city.

Opened in 1973 as Hamstead Hall School, it enjoys an attractive setting next to Sandwell Valley Nature Reserve and Handsworth Golf Course. The site stands in its own extensive grounds and playing fields.

The parents and students of the local area have trusted the school for the best part of 30 years. The school, secure in its history of service to the local community, looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of the future. As part of this challenge the school has now become a community learning centre serving the needs of its pupils, staff and the local, national and international communities.

Our mission statement is "Success for all through hard work and harmony".

Facilities available

Hamstead Hall has been at the forefront of Inclusion and is one of the six schools in the city with a Special Needs Unit. The unit caters for 40 students who have statements for moderate learning and speech and language difficulties.

Today the centre is one of the most successful comprehensives in the country. In September 2000 Hamstead Hall became a Specialist Sports College and in 2004 it gained a second specialism in Mathematics and Computing. In 2006 Hamstead Hall was the top non-selective mixed comprehensive school in Birmingham for pupils achieving 5+ A*- C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics.

2012 Exam Results

We are thrilled to announce that our year 11 students have achieved record results this year in their GCSEs.  77% achieved the government’s gold standard of 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths.  Nearly 20% of students achieved 5 or more A* or A grades.  Also the percentage of students achieving the new benchmark of 3 levels of progress in Maths and English was significantly above the local and national averages and sets a new record for Hamstead Hall.  We are delighted for the students and these results demonstrate a real team effort between students, staff and parents.  These are by far the best results Hamstead Hall has ever had and reflect the incredible amount of work that everyone has put in.

We are very proud of our Year 11 students and look forward to welcoming most of them back into the Sixth Form in September.
