Welcome to The Astley Cooper School

About us

Welcome to The Astley Cooper School.  As a specialist Arts College, our aim is to use the visual and performing arts to unlock learning for all our students, encouraging high aspirations and using the arts as a means of raising achievement in all subject areas.  The Arts develop skills such as teamwork, confidence, creativity and independent learning, which are vital for success in our personal and working lives.  All students are offered opportunities within the Arts, and creative approaches underpin our work throughout the curriculum.

Sixth Form education provides a transition between pre-16 compulsory education and higher education or employment.  Progression and continuity are important for students and the Sixth Form at The Astley Cooper School provides an environment where students are encouraged to achieve and develop as individuals.  The aim of the Sixth Form is to ensure the best possible learning experience for the students while providing other opportunities to develop individual talents, so that all have a firm foundation on which to base future choices.  The majority of our Sixth Form students go on to university, studying a wide range of subjects.

The Astley Cooper School is a member of the East Dacorum Partnership with Adeyfield and Longdean Schools.  The Partnership offers an extensive range of courses to Post 16 students at Level 2 and Level 3.  Together the schools offer a choice of 50 courses tailored to students individual strengths and needs.

The school also belongs to the Dacorum Strategic Area Partnership which consists of four West Dacorum schools (The Cavendish, The Hemel Hempstead, John F. Kennedy Catholic and Kings Langley) and Tring and Ashlyns schools.

Transport is provided for students who need to move between schools at break time.
