Welcome to our Provider information. We hope that you find something of interest. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming place – a college with a school atmosphere.
We are currently a college of over 300 students, one of the largest school sixth forms in West Yorkshire. About 160 students are in Y12, with around a third joining us from schools other than Brighouse High School.
The Sixth Form College is situated close to Brighouse town centre, and is linked by a subway to the bus station. This makes us easily accessible from Halifax, Bradford, Cleckheaton, Rastrick and Hipperholme.
The main school site, where some lessons in specialist rooms are held, is 1.2 miles away.

At Brighouse High we aim to combine the best of both worlds. We uphold the traditional values of high school and utilise the forward looking and more independent approach of sixth form college life. Our students enjoy new freedoms, opportunities and responsibilities. We are a truly comprehensive college where every student is challenged to aim high.
Whatever you are seeking educationally from the next stage of your life, our sixth form college will meet your needs. We offer appropriate courses to students who may be seeking employment and to those wishing to study at university. Our college has an excellent track record of supporting students to achieve their goals and adding value to each individual. In 2015 our high quality outcomes were maintained with a 98% pass rate and the majority of students entering universities of their first choice. Whether you are planning to make an application to Oxbridge or to a Russell Group university or planning on starting a career at 18 we provide high quality advice and guidance to support you in taking those important next steps.
Brighouse High Sixth Form College offers a wide range of A-levels and vocational courses. We match courses to students’ needs, abilities and aptitudes and set targets which stretch each individual in order to achieve the highest grades possible. However, we appreciate that there is much more to college life than academic courses; we offer a wide range of trips, visits, sporting opportunities and cultural activities alongside academic challenge. Just to give you a flavour of what is on offer; each year there is a chance to get involved in a visit to China or the USA, an opportunity to visit London, to enrol on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme or to take a first aid qualification. We both encourage and expect all of our students to take a full part in college life and the opportunities on offer.
We are large enough to offer a variety of experiences, but small enough to have a personal touch. We want our students to have a say in how the college operates and the sixth form committees work on behalf of the student body to constantly review, extend and improve the provision. Students tell us that they are listened to.
We are a comprehensive, multicultural college and accept applications from students of all abilities and backgrounds. We do ask, of course, that you meet the entrance requirements for your chosen course of study. Our aim is to add value to each individual and to ensure that each one of you is able to maximise your full potential. In recent years students have come to us from schools in Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees; over 25 schools are represented in the Sixth Form at present. Increasingly there is a great deal of competition for places in our college. If you are keen to work hard, make a contribution both inside and outside of the classroom and work as part of a team of students and staff to achieve excellence, please make an application to us.
Most lessons are held at the Sixth Form College site , which consists of a modernised and refitted building dating from 1909, and a new learning suite. All classrooms are equipped with whiteboards and projectors. Subjects that require extended ICT facilities are taught in IT rooms. Some subjects require specialist rooms and are taught at the main school site: Food, Product Design, Art, Photography, Textiles, Dance.
The college has a fully resourced and staffed library with private study carels, and a study room equipped with computers. Students have their own common room with large flatscreen TV, table tennis and kitchen area.
The new learning suite has a Sixth Form café, with fresh food cooked on site every day. This is the social and communal heart of the Sixth Form college.
As stated above, we are college with a school atmosphere. All students are members of a tutor group, with a tutor. These groups meet weekly, and it is the tutor who is the first point of support beyond subject staff.
The college is administered by a supportive and knowledgeable team of staff who manage everything from applications, to the Post-16 Bursary, to housing and benefit advice, to first aid, to general guidance.
Our students can also access a professional and confidential counselling service.
We also provide careers guidance from CK Careers, and support with arranging work placements from our own expert staff.
Students are also supported through the work of our Post-16 Learning Mentor, who assists with all aspects of keeping students on track.
The Sixth Form Management Team supports and challenges students to achieve their best: the Head of Sixth , two raising Achievement Co-ordinators, and a Co-ordinator of extended learning.
As stated earlier, students achieve very well with us. We attain national averages for A-E passes, and our ALPS and DFE value added grades consistently place us highly in relation to similar students in other schools.
If a student is willing to work hard, we will support that student to success.
