Welcome to Leek High School

At Leek High, students benefit from a safe, secure supportive and disciplined environment where they are empowered to challenge themselves and fully realise their potential. Learning experiences are engaging and address the needs of every student.

We provide and promote opportunities for the enrichment of students’ experiences of the wider world to enable their successful transition into adulthood. In partnership with other educational establishments, commercial enterprises and support agencies, we are able to expand the horizons of our students.

Our graduates will be emotionally, socially and academically aware, equipped with effective life skills. They will be resilient, responsible and resourceful members of the local and global community.

About us

At this exciting and important step in your life you must choose the post 16 route which best supports your long term aspirations and allows you to develop to the full.

With this in mind we urge you to consider The Sixth Form at Leek High School. We are the place for you!

Our range of AS and A2 courses is very broad ranging from Physics to Photography and from Mathematics to Media Studies. Our partnership with Leek College allows us to further expand your curriculum choices. Resit courses in English, Maths and Science are available. Additional support is provided for all who can benefit.

Our brand new, purpose built, Study Centre is the perfect place for independent study in a calm relaxed atmosphere. The centre is fully equipped with the most up to date computers and is exclusively for Sixth Form use.

We truly value all members of our Sixth Form and therefore we really do listen to you. We have an active Sixth Form Council where the views of all are sought on issues ranging from social events to preferred learning styles.

Not only do we provide high quality learning and teaching but we also give you access to a wide range of enrichment programmes: team building , Duke of Edinburgh Awards, visits to Este, peer mentoring and rock climbing to name just a few.

Facilities available

Students in the sixth form at Leek High Specialist Technology School benefit from the spacious nature of the site. They have their own social section in the school dining area; the computer suite and comfortable seating give the area an ‘internet café’ atmosphere and many students enjoy using it as a study environment. For those studying Biology, Chemistry or Physics, sixth form students also have sole access to a small science lab. For students who need absolute silence when studying, we also have a sixth form study room, which provides a new computer suite, silent reading area and a group study room. There is also a library which can provide a quiet environment during lesson time. Our provision for post 16 education is now excellent and we look forward to welcoming increasing numbers of students to the Sixth Form.

Additional support

Leek High Specialist Technology School provides a caring and supportive environment which enables every student to achieve at the highest level possible; it also promotes a sense of community and good order in the school. We consider the Every Child Matters agenda to be an important part of the work of the school. The five strands of being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic wellbeing are integrated into pastoral care as well as the subject areas.

The form tutor meets the group every day at registration. He/she knows the students very well and is always available to help if problems arise. The form tutor has a clear picture of overall progress and academic achievement and should, in most cases, be the first point of contact for parents.

Co-ordinating the work of form tutors in each age group is the Pastoral Leader who works closely with form tutors to track the academic achievement of each student ensuring that they consistently fulfil their potential. Pastoral Leaders are closely involved in the transfer from middle school and remain with their groups until the end of Year 11, so providing continuity for the progress and care of students. Parents are advised to make early and regular contact with the Pastoral Leader.
