Additional support

Pastoral Care
Your Progress Tutor will oversee all your progress and achievements; work closely with your teachers, parents or guardian and help to support you to manage your academic progress. Tutor group sessions take place each week and are an important and compulsory part of your timetable. You will meet regularly with your Tutor for one to one meetings to review your academic progress and agree performance targets.  Learning mentor support is available to help you develop advanced level study skills and provides access to specialist advice from external support agencies. The College is committed to your safety and wellbeing; the College’s Counsellor and safeguarding officers are also part of the progress team.

Specific learning needs or disabilities
If you have a specific learning difficulty or a disability requiring learning support, please ensure that you tell us about your needs when you apply.  Early applications by December prior to entry are needed to enable us to liaise directly with you and your parents or guardian.  This helps us to have a clear understanding of your support needs when we apply for specific high needs support funding, where appropriate.  Transition visits to College start whilst you are still in Year 11.

The Honours Programme
Offering our students a distinctive set of opportunities for academic achievement and personal development and giving them the competitive edge they need when applying for the highest quality courses and the most prestigious universities in the country.

The Honours Programme is open to students with a strong academic profile. Typically, students will have achieved mostly grades 7,8 or 9. The programme will appeal to students who have an interest in exploring the option of attending one of the country’s top universities. Our aim is to work with students to boost their skills and confidence, give them early access to university style learning and enable them to make a more informed decision about applying for their chosen university course.

Learner success

The College is pleased to announce outstanding Advanced Level Results for 2018 with a 99% pass rate and even better results than in previous years.  67% of students have achieved higher grades and 96% of BTEC National Diploma students have achieved Distinction* – Distinction. The College continues to build year-on-year on its impressive outcomes for students in its care.

These results place the College significantly above the national rates for post – 16 school and college providers and again ranks Bolton Sixth Form College alongside the best in the country. Students have worked extremely hard over the last two years and these results are a reflection of their dedication, commitment and motivation to succeed.” Principal, Stuart Merrills.

The majority will now move forward to secure their places at universities across the country, with students progressing to study a broad range of subjects encompassing: sciences, medicine, law, business, music, performing arts and humanities. These results coupled with the College’s excellent careers, advice and guidance programmes, as well as strong links with industry and employers, have enabled students who chose not to progress to Higher Education to obtain excellent career opportunities with many choosing to take a higher level apprenticeship route.
