Additional support

Pastoral Care
Your Progress Tutor will oversee all your progress and achievements; work closely with your teachers, parents or guardian and help to support you to manage your academic progress. Tutor group sessions take place each week and are an important and compulsory part of your timetable. You will meet regularly with your Tutor for one to one meetings to review your academic progress and agree performance targets.  Learning mentor support is available to help you develop advanced level study skills and provides access to specialist advice from external support agencies. The College is committed to your safety and wellbeing; the College’s Counsellor and safeguarding officers are also part of the progress team.

Specific learning needs or disabilities
If you have a specific learning difficulty or a disability requiring learning support, please ensure that you tell us about your needs when you apply.  Early applications by December prior to entry are needed to enable us to liaise directly with you and your parents or guardian.  This helps us to have a clear understanding of your support needs when we apply for specific high needs support funding, where appropriate.  Transition  visits to College start whilst you are still in Year 11.

The Honours Programme
Offering our students a distinctive set of opportunities for academic achievement and personal development and giving them the competitive edge they need when applying for the highest quality courses and the most prestigious universities in the country.

The Honours Programme is open to students with a strong academic profile. Typically, students will have achieved mostly A* -A grades. The programme will appeal to students who have an interest in exploring the option of attending one of the country’s top universities. Our aim is to work with students to boost their skills and confidence, give them early access to university style learning and enable them to make a more informed decision about applying for their chosen university course.

Learner success

Students at Bolton Sixth Form College are celebrating yet another year of outstanding A Level and Vocational A Level results, outperforming the national results with a 99% pass rate. The College is delighted to announce that the number of students achieving the higher grade passes has increased this year; 59% of advanced level students achieved higher grades and 95% of BTEC National Diploma students achieved D*- D grades.

The newly appointed Principal of Bolton Sixth Form College, Stuart Merrills said: “We are very proud of the achievements of all our students and there are excellent results right across the board, for which students have worked extremely hard. This is the first year that students have sat the two-year linear exam and it is testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and staff that the results are so good”.

You will benefit from high quality teaching and outstanding student support.  Our specialist tutors and careers advisors ensure that all students are fully prepared to take the next steps forward towards higher education or further training and employment.  We continue to develop strong links with local employers and many of our students benefit from work placements and expert advice from industry professionals during their courses.
