Welcome to Carisbrooke College

Our ethos is to relentlessly pursue outstanding teaching, learning and pastoral care, whilst maintaining the focus on the needs of the individual student. We are passionate about making a difference to young people’s lives and equipping them for futures in which they can achieve their aspirations.

Courses on offer include a wide range of A levels and Level 3 programmes, alongside extra curricular activities designed to enhance and complement academic study, as well as engaging and stimulating our students by offering new and exciting opportunities.

The joint VI Form welcomes students from all over the Isle of Wight. The facilities at the campus are of a standard to rival any learning institution. At the official opening of the campus Sheila Hancock said "The building has been imaginatively converted into a pleasant environment for the pupils. They have room to relax away from the pressure of exams, as well as excellent laboratories and lecture rooms. It will provide a helpful stepping stone between school and university". However, the best way to appreciate the Campus is to visit us and see the VI Form in action.

We are committed to ensuring teaching and learning is of the highest quality and have put in place a rigorous programme of monitoring to ensure that not only are our students well taught but that they are supported, through a range of classroom activities, to become active, inquisitive and independent learners.

In our second year as a joint VI Form, we were extremely pleased that 99 per cent of our students achieved pass grades and 40 per cent were awarded A*, A or B grades. This achievement ensured that 144 students gained places at their first choice university.

Students have access to a wide range of A level provision with the joint VI Form having the ability to offer minority subjects which could not be supported with fewer students; nevertheless, a minimum of six to ten students (depending on the subject) will be required to ensure a course will run.

The VI Form Campus is an ideal bridge between school and higher education, or employment and gives students more freedom and responsibility. Students are encouraged to manage their own time and develop the study and work skills needed for university, or the world of work.

Personal development is also very important to us. Each student has a Professional Tutor who meets with his or her students on a regular basis and supports their transition from GCSE to A level and greater independence. High levels of attendance are required, over 95 per cent, if students are to maximise their learning opportunities.

There are excellent opportunities for students to participate in a wide range of extra curricular provision including the renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Young Enterprise, a pre-driver training course, sporting activities and drama and musical shows and productions. All VI Form students are benefitting from the opportunities presented by our Trust partners such as working with professional artists on exhibition pieces, health care specialists and university lecturers and professors.

Our VI form is going from strength to strength and we hope that you will join us to share in our success. I look forward to meeting you and do hope you will take the opportunity to see what we have to offer.

Irrespective of whether you decide to apply to our VI Form, we wish you every success in your forthcoming GCSEs and post 16 experiences.
