Our 50+ courses have a sound theoretical background and many offer practical and on the job training or work experience.
We have a strong focus on developing students’ employment skills through a range of successful and innovative initiatives, including partnerships with prestigious world class companies in Canary Wharf and the City of London such as KPMG, EY and Thomson Reuters and which offer many of our students valuable work experience. Our business and enterprise courses were rated outstanding by Ofsted, their highest accolade.
87% of our 16-18 year old students progressed to university this year, well above the national average and we are rightly proud of those students who have gone onto well-known London universities including UCL, Kings’ College, Queen Mary, SOAS, and Goldsmiths as well as well respected regional universities including Southampton, Birmingham, Leeds and York amongst many others.
Our results speak for themselves and we have improved considerably over the last four years, with an overall A-level success rate of 93% and 100% success in 12 subject areas.

Tower Hamlets College is based in the east of London. We have two campuses within the borough of Tower Hamlets, with the main one based at Poplar, close to Canary Wharf and another at Arbour Square, Stepney, close to the City of London.
We are recognised as a good college by Ofsted, for the quality of our educational provision and wide progression opportunities for our students.
With sites based minutes away from the leading business and financial areas of Canary Wharf and the City of London, we are never more than three minutes from a DLR or bus stop and ten minutes from the Jubilee Line.
We provide education and training to young people aged from 14-18 years and to adult learners. This includes a large offering of 50+ courses at A-Levels to vocational in a range of subjects including business, IT, social sciences, maths and science, health and social care, trade skills and catering, as well as pre-university entry courses such as Access to Higher Education and Higher National Certificates.
We have strong business links with a number of leading of companies in Canary Wharf and the City of London.
We also offer employer and employee training, including apprenticeships. In addition, you can receive independent advice and guidance from one of our fully trained employment, education, training and careers advisers.
We have two campuses in the borough of Tower Hamlets. Our main campus can be found at Poplar, just two minutes away from the leading business district of Canary Wharf. Our campuses have modern learning facilities and high quality communal areas, such as our learning centres and study areas, coffee shop and restaurants, including a Subway outlet, the only college one in the UK.
There is also strong links with the sports facility at the Workhouse, which is next door to our Poplar Campus. This includes two football pitches for use by students and the local community, which have been fitted with new 3G pitches, an indoor basketball/netball court and games room.
IT and Specialist Resources:
IT facilities are of a high standard at Tower Hamlets College. There are over 2000 computers, including laptops, and new interactive whiteboards in classrooms, with more planned in the not too distant future. We have high numbers of data projectors and numerous mobile audio visual units for classroom use and a well stocked media resources area with additional data projectors, camcorders, digital cameras etc, all for use in teaching and learning.
All students get WiFi internet access, the use of the college intranet and virtual learning environment and an e-mail address. In the Learning Centres, students can use computers with CD-ROM, scanning and printing facilities. Qualified staff are available to help with any problems.
There are specialist rooms with high-quality, modern equipment in our training kitchen, Canary View. The Creative Computing and Multimedia classrooms feature the latest Macs equipped with the latest art, design, graphics, 3d, video editing, sound and animation software.
Our learning Centres at Poplar and Arbour Square are well stocked to aid your learning and kitted out with all the latest technology.
Tower Hamlets College is working together with the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation, Splash, Docklands Light Railway, and the Tower Hamlets Partnership to provide the excellent sports centre, the Workhouse. Activities include: Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Yoga, Dance, Aerobics etc.
The college administers bursary schemes. Funds are allocated to students needing support with materials and other educational costs.

Additional Learning Support (ALS):
The ALS Team is here to help you succeed. Support is open to all students and allocated according to need. Support can be in-class, small group sessions, 1:1 support, drop-in support in the Learning Zone and special exam arrangements. We have highly trained staff and specialist equipment/computer software to help with your learning. We are committed to delivering effective and high quality support for all students. The ALS Team respects students’ rights to confidentiality regarding information provided about a disability or learning difficulty.

Course Advisers give advice and guidance on college courses to external applicants and to students currently at the college. They attend external school and community events and are available at open evenings, advice and interview sessions and enrolment. Students can get support from Tower Hamlets Careers Service. Careers Advisers give advice on further and higher education, careers and employment. They will visit tutorial sessions to give talks on education and career opportunities and they also support students with learning difficulties.
There are two learning centres at Poplar and Arbour Square. Both have excellent study facilities, learning materials and IT facilities. We recognise that students often need different types of space, so we offer a silent working space, a quiet zone and a group work area. The centre at Poplar is open two evenings, giving students additional time to use the area. Students will find the books they need to support their coursework, textbooks and additional materials, all of high quality, up to date and relevant. So if you're studying A Levels, Carpentry or learning English you will find the materials in the learning centre. There are suites of computers with specialist and Microsoft Office software, colour printing and scanning. Students receive an allocation for printing and photocopying. Many of the resources can now be accessed from home and staff in the centres assist students with any issues they might have with accessing the network.

Every student at Tower Hamlets College is allocated a personal tutor. The tutor works closely with each student to set challenging targets and to support every student in reaching their potential.
Student Welfare Advice:
Student Advisers give students advice on financial, legal, benefits, immigration and other welfare issues. They can also advise on childcare support.
Tutorial Support Team:
Monitor students’ performance and carry out regular reviews to deal with any issues and problems that can affect attendance, punctuality, behaviour and coursework. This is done by coaching students to develop personal, social and life skills.
