Welcome to Hatch End High School
Hatch End High School is a high performing, happy and thriving comprehensive school in the London Borough of Harrow.
The school has a rich history of tradition but actively embraces the very best of new technologies and innovative practice. We have a high profile in the community, supporting other schools and play a lead role in training the next generation of teachers.
We are conveniently situated in the north west of the borough with easy access to Central Harrow as well as Hertfordshire, Brent, Hillingdon and Barnet.
I am very proud to say that our students consistently make outstanding progress and we are regularly in the highest performing schools nationally for GCSE. Our A Level performance is consistently well above the local and national average. However, this academic excellence is paralleled by our equal commitment to develop the personality, talents and abilities of all our students.
Ofsted, when they visited in 2013, picked up immediately on the palpable sense of inclusion, nurturing and rigour at Hatch End High School when they acknowledged in the very first line of the report – “Students thrive in this school.”
The Sixth Form at Hatch End High School is housed in a state-of-the-art centre and offers access to more than 40 subjects at AS/A2 Level, as well as extensive applied learning opportunities. Our Sixth Form students perform consistently at a very high standard and make outstanding progress in their examinations which regularly exceeds the national average. We value and encourage the independent learning skills that universities and employers demand. The pastoral strengths of the school extend into the Sixth Form with all students having a personal tutor. The Sixth Form team operate an ‘open door’ policy and adopt a ‘can do’ approach. Sixth Form classes are fast-paced and challenge students relentlessly to achieve the very highest examination grades. There is an extensive range of enrichment activities, including a wide variety of sports and life changing education trips, for example our annual visit to CERN in Geneva; additionally, all students are given opportunities to support the local community.
Hatch End High is proud to be able to offer our students some of the very best Performing Arts, Sixth form, ICT, Library and Music facilities in the Borough as well as extensive specialist rooms across the curriculum.
Hatch End High School understands that all students need to be supported pastorally in order to be able to thrive at school and to learn.
The pastoral care structure with its houses and tutor groups offers strong support to all its students. On joining the school, all students are placed with a Tutor, who is responsible for their overall welfare, overseen by Heads of Year and Pastoral Assistants and supported by Senior Leadership Staff.
We pride ourselves that the Pastoral Teams really get to know each student in their care and help them celebrate their achievements and negotiate and support them through any challenging times, either academically or socially.
The Pastoral Care Teams always have high expectations of the students, promote challenge and open communication between the school, students and parents.
We have had yet another year of fantastic results at Post 16.
This is a worthy culmination of all our students’ hard work over the last two years and has only been possible thanks to outstanding teaching from an exceptionally well qualified staff body and of course support from our parent body. All should be congratulated and I am very proud to lead a school that is consistently in the best 10% of schools in the whole country for academic achievement.
