Welcome to Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate Girls School

We are a vibrant, friendly and diverse community in the heart of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Our school offers state-of-the-art facilities, a rigorous and academic curriculum and outstanding teaching and learning opportunities, all of which contributed to our excellent 2015 examination results.

As a Catholic school, we firmly put Jesus Christ at the centre of all we do and endeavour to live out the gospel values of love, justice, peace, mercy, forgiveness and truth in our daily interactions with one another. These values are modelled by pupils and staff and have helped to create a peaceful, inclusive learning environment.

Our most recent OFSTED report is outstanding and is evidence that your daughter will flourish whilst in our care. Please do take a look at the inspection in greater detail here.

We are fully committed to securing outstanding academic outcomes for all our pupils and believe enrichment opportunities help to achieve this. We have welcomed guest speakers such as the poet Benjamin Zephaniah, politician Nick Clegg and the actress Joanna Lumley. We also enjoy fruitful partnerships with organisations such as Ogilvy Marketing and Allen and Overy Law firm to help raise aspirations and develop vision for the future within our school.

We aim to make school an enjoyable, challenging, life-changing experience where all girls are provided with the opportunity to flourish academically, spiritually and emotionally. This rich, holistic approach to the development of the whole child means all pupils leave our school confident and with a greater appreciation and awareness of the World in which they live.

We offer a wide range of A Level and BTEC subjects. We will meet with you and your parents to ensure that you are studying the correct subjects and pathway. We will support you in the UCAS process and help you decide the most appropriate choice of course and University. Each year we have a large number of applicants to Oxbridge and the Russell group Universities.

Bishop Challoner is at the forefront of artistic and sporting endeavour. Our pupils regularly play with and alongside the musicians at Clare College, Cambridge and at both the Wigmore Hall and with the LSO. Pupils are engaged in new media learning at The Barbican Film Theatre and with drama and careers work in local theatres, such as the Half-Moon and Shakespeare’s Globe. We are especially proud, too, of our Sixth Form's Young Doctors' Programme.

Our Sixth Form offers a large number of work related opportunities. We support our students in getting work experience, mentoring and Internships from a large number of Companies and organisations. We have close links with companies in the City and Canary wharf.

Bishop Challoner is a Catholic College but we welcome students from all faiths and denominations. We are a caring and friendly community that is inclusive to all. You will be supported and helped to achieve – we will help you be the best you can be.

Facilities available

Our state-of-the-art buildings and facilities, along with a team of highly-experienced, innovative and dedicated staff, mean that your son or daughter’s school days will be challenging, stimulating and rewarding. I am pleased to write that we are now a member of the East London Teaching School Alliance and share our professional training as a newly launch Holocaust Beacon School. We serve as dynamic hub co-ordinating a network of local schools, helping them to develop confidence, proficiency and excellence in Holocaust teaching and learning.

Additional support

6th form academic mentors support students in their learning and are based within the 6th form study area. The mentors play a key in monitoring student achievement and ensuring that each student has the opportunity to receive personalised support- both academic and pastoral- if needed.

There are times when some students may need additional support in a subject. If needed, we can provide fully qualified subject tutors to give additional lessons outside of class time to assist students in improving their grades.

Each year several students apply to Oxford, Cambridge and medical school with an excellent success rate. Due to the additional demands of these applications we provide an extra programme of support to students who wish to take this route.

Learner success

Bishop Challoner Sixth form is pleased to report another year of top results at BTEC and A Level.

BTEC students in particular have had a fantastic year, having recorded the best results in the school’s history, with many leaving to top universities such as Liverpool and Southampton, and some coaching sport abroad.

These results round off a historic year for Bishop Challoner Sixth Form, in which it was awarded the ‘World Class Schools’ quality mark – a standard which accredits schools that ‘move beyond outstanding’. Bishop Challoner is one of very few institutions in London to achieve this mark.
