Welcome to Highbury Grove School

Our curriculum ensures that every student receives a strong academic education alongside a very wide range of opportunities for personal development. We place significant emphasis on developing the knowledge, skills, principles and values our students need to find fulfilment and to make a contribution as global citizens. As a Specialist Music School, everyone at Highbury Grove is a musician and we are honoured to be a founding partner of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust.

We want all of our students to develop deep factual knowledge; to know about the physical world, their history, culture and current affairs as well as the world of art and literature. We expect them to explore ideas, to learn how to ask good questions and to engage in debate. We also place great importance on their ability to communicate their ideas; to stand up in front of others to speak; to make things with their hands and with digital technology and to work collaboratively.

Highbury Grove School is a highly inclusive school community where every individual matters. We have superb pastoral support systems and take a strong stand on tackling prejudice and promoting our equalities agenda. This is a school where students of every ethnic background, boys and girls, student with disabilities or special educational needs and students who identify as LGBT are celebrated and thrive equally.

Our Sixth Form is highly successful with students going on to a range of university courses and apprenticeships heading for careers in everything from medicine, law and journalism to engineering, graphic design, computing and the arts.

Highbury Grove School provides a very disciplined learning atmosphere where everyone is expected to work hard and make a contribution. It is a warm, loving and caring community with superb relationships between students and staff.

Highbury Grove School is an exciting place to work and to learn. I am very proud and privileged to be the Headteacher. I hope you find that our website gives you a feel for our dynamic, vibrant school.

About us

HGS provides a high quality Sixth Form education in a friendly, supportive and productive learning environment. IC6 draws on the combined resources, teaching expertise and strengths of each of the four schools to provide a wide curriculum offer with a large selection of Academic (over 30 different A Levels) and Vocation (8 different pathways at 3 levels) courses. Each school contributes to the curriculum offer and has dedicated facilities that can be used at any time. Students are based (tutored) at one of the schools but can study courses at any of the centres as the curriculum is very flexible.

The sixth form now has its own dedicated website at  where you will be able to find full details of courses, extra curricular activities, student life and the admissions policy.

Learner success

Students and staff at Highbury Grove are celebrating an excellent set of A level results that follows very strong performance in our vocational BTEC and OCR Diplomas.

Overall, we have achieved a pass rate of 98.2% with 77% of A level grades at A*-C and 52% of grades at A*-B.  Last year our three-year average placed us in the top 10% of schools for adding value in the Sixth Form on the ALPS system and that is set to continue with these results.

Altogether 31 students gained 700 or more points, equivalent to BBC at A level or D*DD in a Diploma, a significant rise from our success last year.  Students are heading for a range of superb university places including several Russell Group places and the University of Chicago in the US.
