Welcome to Eltham Hill School
At Eltham Hill we aim to equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to become active citizens in the 21st Century - a rapidly changing technological world. We group students in form groups of 30 and have smaller groups sizes for practical work. Each year group is managed by a year leader who monitors the academic and personal progress of all students in their care. The college places great emphasis on equal opportunities and the need to ensure that all students of all aptitudes and abilities have equal access to learning. We stretch the most able girls, offering accelerated programmes across the subjects and provide in class support and challenge for those girls who have special educational needs. ‘Teaching is good and in some lessons it is outstanding, as teachers know their students well and plan stimulating and enjoyable lessons enabling most of them to make good progress’. (Ofsted Inspection Report 2006). We now plan to provide an innovative, flexible curriculum offer (one day a week) to all year groups, which develops the learning capabilities of all our girls. In years 7, 8 and 9 students follow a broad balanced curriculum with opportunities for enrichment outside of the normal classroom environment. At key stage 4, students follow a personalised learning programme including opportunities to study a variety of GCSEs (normally 10 or 11) or follow vocational pathways, including opportunities to study offsite in areas such as construction, catering and hair and beauty. In year 10, all students undertake work experience. Students are set aspirational targets for learning. Progress towards these targets is monitored closely and learning conversations take place with students, parents/carers twice a year. Ofsted inspectors praised the ‘excellent procedures for setting challenging academic targets, tracking students’ progress, and raising aspirations’.
