Welcome to Darrick Wood School
The School motto, "Revereor Vitam" - to revere life - is reflected in the excellent results achieved each year by our Post 16 students, who regularly progress to Higher Education and successful careers. Selecting the right school is crucial to your future prospects. At Darrick Wood School we offer a wide range of courses. These include A/AS Levels & BTECs aimed at meeting the individual needs of all our students, including those who join us from other schools.
Why choose our School?

The Sixth Form here is successful; many subjects have consistently achieved 100% pass rates. Our results consistently place us high in the local league tables. Each year under the guidance of a highly qualified staff, students follow a variety of courses which prepare them for University, Further Education or employment. This has helped our Sixth Form students achieve high standards in successive years. Our philosophy is high challenge twinned with powerful support.

Sixth Form students are highly valued as positive role models for younger students and are our best ambassadors in the local community.
Sixth Form students are nominated by their fellow students each year to undertake the challenging role of Prefects, from whom 6 Senior Prefects are chosen including Head Boy and Head Girl.
The Head Boy, Head Girl and Prefects represent the School at all official functions and play an important role in supervising the younger pupils.
Behaviour and dress:
Darrick Wood School expects all students to adopt high standards of behaviour in the School and local Community.
Sixth Form students are expected to dress smartly, and should follow the Sixth Form Dress Code. We follow a principle of Dress Smart, Work Smart.
Students will sign a Sixth Form Contract which outlines the School's expectations and our commitment to you.
Darrick Wood Sixth Form offers a variety of extra curricular activities to engage students and stimulate interests. These will also promote personal skills.
Events throughout the year include a number of subject based study days based at local Universities.
To enhance subjects and extend experiences students will have the opportunities to take part in a range of visits. Business students have travelled to Barcelona to extend their learning. Students have been to Chessington to experience the leisure industry first hand and History students to Russia. Each year there are trips to Italy or Greece to appreciate the culture. There are theatre trips, social events, skiing in Austria and the Sixth Form starts with the opportunity to take part in a Team Building Day where students work in groups through a variety of problem solving activities.
Students are encouraged to continue their participation and achievement in sporting activities. On Wednesday afternoons the Physical Education Department opens the use of its facilities to the Sixth Form. These include a fitness room, sports hall, netball/tennis courts, new 3G pitch, outside pitches and a gym.
If students are more competitively orientated, they can represent the School in netball, rugby and football fixtures against other schools and colleges.
Darrick Wood School has an excellent standard of resources, facilities and equipment for students and staff which are constantly being updated.
Our Sixth Form Centre boasts a state-of the art Resource Centre and Common Room area. The Common Room provides a social area to meet, relax and work before and after School hours. There is a servery in the Common Room, open before school, at break and lunch which provides refreshments.
Our new Resource Centre provides facilities for private study and research. This area is designated as a 'silent' working area to promote independent learning during study periods and after school, and is solely for Sixth Form use.
A Careers Library is available for use by students who wish to investigate future courses and carry out careers research.
We believe that Post 16 courses should be a preparation for your Higher Education course or career. During your interview for a place at Darrick Wood School Sixth Form you will be asked about your future plans to ensure the course you are starting will fit with these aspirations.
During your course of study the Sixth Form team will advise you about applying for Higher Education, and employment. There will be advice on writing CVs and interview practise.
There are visits and conferences to support your ambitions. All Year 12 students attend a UCAS conference in March and in Year 13 a 'Next Steps' conference is organised to aid students aiming for employment.
