Welcome to Southborough High School
At Southborough, we understand the crucial importance of the decisions you are about to make in terms of the next stage of your education and are committed to helping you make the right choices and fulfil your potential.
First of all, we are determined that all our Sixth Form students receive sound, well-informed advice and guidance about which courses and qualifications are best for you in order to achieve your personal goals and ambitions. We also have a excellent range of courses, designed to meet our students' needs and aspirations.
We work supportively with you as students and with your parents to ensure that you achieve your absolute best in public exams and are fully prepared for whichever pathway you choose to follow afterwards, be it university, training or employment.
However, we nuture and value other achievements, as well as exam success. As a Sixth Form student at Southborough, you will participate and excel in a wide range of extracurricular, vocational and community based activities, which will help you to develop into a confident, well rounded young adult, fully prepared for the challenges and opportunities for twenty first century life.
We believe every student is unique and , as such, you will be assigned a tutor who will work closely with you to develop an academic pathway that is right for you: one that best reflects your abilities, talents and aspirations. As a Sixth Form student, you will be expected to work more independently on your chosen subjects - to research, to analyse and to question - but we will guide you and help you set your goals. Regular assessment and feedback will help you meet your targets.
During Sixth Form, students will take part in training courses touching on all areas of life skills, such as making successful presentations, succeeding at interview, managing self-esteem, and even how to cook for later life and learning the guitar. In addition, they will have the opportunity to gain a raft of accredited extra-curricular qualifications, including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, First Aid and the Community Sports Leader to name but a few, whilst also developing their social enterprise skills and experiences through community out-reach work.
There is a Sixth Form Centre based within the main school site. Whilst students attend lessons across the various subject departments within the main school site, Sixth Formers do have their own study room, two common rooms and a kitchen at their disposal.
The school itself also offers:
- Creative Media MAC Suite
- Music MAC Suite
- Two fully equipped gyms and playing fields
- Exclusive Sixth Form art studio
