Welcome to Shirley High School Performing Arts College

The Sixth Form is a key part of our vision for the school. We are creating an outstanding post 16 provision for the young people of Shirley and we are offering you the opportunity to help us create a sixth form that is a beacon of excellence; one of which we can be truly proud. Sixth Former students will play a key leadership role in the school providing younger students with role models they can look up to and aspire to emulate.

The ethos of this school is a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to enjoy their education and achieve to their fullest potential. This is due to the strong emphasis we place on high standards of achievement and behaviour. We believe that such standards are achieved where good attendance, punctuality and the development of sound personal relationships, are encouraged. We regard the Sixth Form as the pinnacle of education in the school, when students can benefit from the closer pastoral guidance and enjoy the independence and flexibility of life in the sixth form centre. We feel that it is important to offer a rich variety of extra-curricular activities, to balance the demands of academic work and thereby educate the whole person. Through the opportunities that we offer, we hope to discover the aptitudes and talents of each individual and to develop them to their fullest, through extra-curricular activity, as well as through work in the classroom. We will encourage all students to grow in self-discipline and to prize integrity, tolerance and respect for others.

Nigel Barrow – Principal

Shirley High School Sixth Form is a warm and welcoming  environment where students at post 16 thrive. We pride ourselves on our first rate examination results and, at a time of expansion, remain committed to making learning at this level personalised and challenging.

We aim to allow students to develop both as learners and global citizens, enabling them to make educated choices about the future and broaden their horizons. It is our responsibility to maximise our students’ potential through inspirational teaching, support and guidance, and providing the opportunity for achieving future success. We further aim to equip students with knowledge and skills to learn from, and respect other cultures, as active and compassionate learners.

Brigid Doherty – Vice Principal – Sixth Form

About us

The Sixth Form at Shirley High School aims to provide a high-quality post-16 education which will enable students to reach the best possible standards of achievement in both academic and personal development. High expectations, strong teaching, individual support and excellent relationships are key features of the Sixth Form.

All students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning so that, through individual effort and teamwork, they attain the highest possible academic success and develop an informed approach to life; one that will be of lasting benefit to themselves and society.

Exceptional results, 100% pass rate. Most of our students have applied through UCAS and gone on to further study at university.
