Welcome to Brentford School for Girls

Welcome to our thriving and high-achieving 6th Form. Young people choose us because we have a strong track record of academic success and we provide outstanding support for all of our students. Our vision is to equip our students with the qualifications, skills, qualities and experiences that prospective universities and employers require. We have one of the highest “value added” scores compared to all other Hounslow 6th forms. We are confident that we can offer students an excellent experience.

We offer a wide variety of A Level and BTEC courses. We are part of the Campus Hounslow Consortium, so we can offer up to 60 different course options.

Our students benefit from outstanding teaching. Many of our A Level classes are small and students receive targeted, individual support from specialist subject teachers. Our strong pastoral team enables our students to make excellent progress in their studies. A strong relationship between staff and students is a key ingredient to our success and students benefit from this supportive environment.

The high expectations we hold for all of our students is implicit within the culture and ethos of Brentford Sixth Form. Tutor time includes a variety of activities that focus on developing our students holistically. Additional opportunities for students include a variety of leadership positions, including Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl, Senior 6th Form Prefect, Social Committee and Prefect Team. Also, all students have the opportunity to attend Brentford University at the end of Year 12, in order to prepare them for the challenges of Year 13.

We prepare all our students for a competitive world. Our students are expected to follow a business dress code to ensure smartness and to encourage a self-confident outlook. We have a wide range of social and enrichment activities. Opportunities include museum, theatre, art gallery and exhibition visits and subject-specific excursions, including voluntary work at an Indian Eye Camp. Students may also choose to take part in a wide range of enrichment opportunities in school including paired reading with younger students, working as a teaching assistant or completing a range of work experience placements.  All our students are expected to take part in an off-site teambuilding day to develop confidence and teamwork skills.

We look forward to meeting you.

Miss Coleman – Assistant Head Teacher/Head of 6th Form

6th Form is about more than academic study
At Brentford 6th Form we offer an extensive enrichment programme. Whatever you go on to do after 6th Form you will  be expected to have done more than just studying for your examined subjects, although this of course is your most important priority. We offer activities such as leading assemblies, debating, mentoring, paired reading, in-class support and community activities.

Supporting your learning – helping you succeed
Tutors and mentors will support you in your learning by tracking your progress and helping to set and review personal targets. Subject teachers will set target grades for each of you based on your GCSE results and external data. You need to be able to assess your own progress and think about how you can achieve the best possible results. There are regular meetings between staff to discuss your progress, monitor your attendance and punctuality and address any concerns. Hardworking students who are achieving above expectations are identified and congratulated.

6th Formers are encouraged to attend university open days and residential schools. Recently, our students have been selected for summer school courses in medicine, natural sciences and humanities subjects at Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities. We have also been successful in placing students on courses at other universities, both in London and elsewhere, for taster sessions in engineering, pharmacy, medicine, law and English Literature. The aim of these courses is to give students a better idea of life at university.

Facilities available

At Brentford 6th Form our students benefit from excellent specialist resources and facilities. The 6th Form Centre was opened in January 2014 and provides state-of-the-art facilities where students may study and socialise. Our students are able to work independently using a dedicated computer suite and there is a supervised private study area where students can access support from a member of the 6th Form team. All students have at least two dedicated study periods each week to facilitate outstanding progress.

Additional support

6th Form tutor groups are small, to ensure that tutors are able to give our students maximum support and guidance throughout. Tutors are well trained in giving the best advice and guidance on future careers and university courses. They are able to answer questions related to applying to university and they support students through the UCAS process.

There are a wide range of opportunities available at Brentford. We are proud of our outstanding care and guidance, which supports our students in achieving their potential.  Please  contact us if you have any questions or queries.

Learner success

All students who leave Brentford progress to university or employment. We have strong links with local employers and universities, including Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities. Our Sutton Trust programme identifies students with exceptional ability and aptitude early on in their studies. Students are able to take part in the Extended Project Qualification and students are also encouraged to attend summer schools, masterclasses and university lectures to enable them to get a head start in the competitive university market.
