Welcome to Kemnal Technology College
Whether going to university, starting an apprenticeship or going into the world of work, our Sixth Form is driven by the goal of helping all students to achieve their goals. We offer high quality teaching across a wide range of subject areas, with a culture that fosters independent learning.
In our most recent Ofsted Report, teaching at KS5 was described as “consistently good, and sometimes outstanding” and the positive attitude that our Sixth Formers have towards learning was also highlighted (Ofsted 2013). The academic transition from year 11 to Sixth Form can be challenging, but we ensure that students hit the ground running by providing them with Summer Taster Tasks, running a comprehensive induction programme and timetabling Study Skills sessions throughout the year.
Sixth Form students enjoy the full benefits of our state of the art, brand new Sixth Form Centre. This area is dedicated exclusively to Sixth Form study, group work and mentoring. It comes complete with a large computer suite, study resources and an area for social interaction. In addition, there are numerous opportunities to get more involved with the wider school community, whether it be playing for the highly successful Football Academy, arranging events as part of the Sixth Form Committee or leading whole school initiatives as a member of the College Council.
We organise a wide range of events, such as talks from prestigious employers and universities, designed to help students succeed when planning for life beyond Sixth Form. This is complemented by our work experience programme, which organises placements for students appropriate to their career ambitions. For those students who are applying to university, we allocate them a member of the KS5 team to give them one-on-one guidance throughout the UCAS process, as well as providing parents with the information they need for this step.
The KS5 team ensures it gets to know each student’s personal strengths and weaknesses, enabling us to push them and support them appropriately to ensure they reach their full potential.

As a College we are dedicated to keeping our students safe and well. The College offers many opportunities for students to learn about healthy and safe life choices and works hard to provide a caring and supportive environment. We recognise that some students may need more support than others and have a strong pastoral system to ensure that students feel nurtured and listened to. As young people, students are at risk from a range of potentially harmful situations. Our staff are trained regularly about how to recognise any signs of risk of harm and we are committed to safer recruiting. Student safety is on our weekly meetings agenda.
Kemnal’s Special Educational Needs Policy ensures that support is available across college life with a particular focus on supporting students to achieve their academic potential. The team is managed by The Deputy Head in charge of Learning Support and provides staff with a range of skills and knowledge. Our most able students are challenged through extension work and enhancement classes while the College has a wide range of strategies to support students with special educational needs. This includes small group tuition in literacy and numeracy, social skills sessions, mentoring and counselling. The Learning Support Department works closely alongside the pastoral and behavioural teams to ensure effective support for identified students. We also offer support for EAL students through in class support and specialist language classes.
