Welcome to Hendon School
Hendon School is a family – albeit a very large and diverse family – and we celebrate that. We are stronger because of our differences and because of the way that we work together. Our school is entering a new and dynamic phase of its development and this year we have been working to articulate the vision and values that underpin our school community.
At Hendon School we work in partnership with parents, the local community and other schools, both in England and with our partner schools in South Africa, Japan and Nepal. We are part of the Compton Teaching Alliance with whom we work to provide high quality training opportunities for new teachers and established staff and are members of PiXL and SSAT Leading Edge. Recently we were honoured to be invited to join the Mayors Gold Club, which allows us to share good practice with other London schools. We work closely with our local feeder primary schools, both as part of our high involvement transition programme and also to enrich and inspire younger students.
Hendon is an Outstanding School. We are passionate about education and about working with our young people to give them the best opportunities and to help them to be ready for the next stage of their life. We take good care of them and work with them to unlock their potential.
At HS6 we believe that young people have a right to a happy, safe and stimulating learning environment. We always aim to ensure that every student is able to achieve their potential academically, socially and emotionally. Our lively 6th form offers a personalised, innovative and stimulating post-16 experience. We offer a wide range of opportunities to gain qualifications and develop first class skills for employment and further study. This is done through a variety of avenues. Through time tabled SMART Futures lessons, students learn key, practical skills that will assist them in preparation for a career. In our enrichment programme, students engage in a ‘community project’ where they volunteer and contribute to the wider school community.
Making the transition from GCSE is difficult for both students and parents. We fully support students with their choices through their tutor groups and by scheduling individual appointments and interviews to give advice and guidance as to suitable A level and BTEC choices. Once a member of HS6, students are taught by teachers who are well qualified, enthusiastic about their subject area and deliver high quality lessons. Most importantly however, students benefit from learning in an environment and with teachers which they are familiar with and who supported them all through the school. However, we ensure that those students who are joining from other schools are also supported by our highly skilled tutor team and are a valued part of the Hendon School community. In our dedicated Sixth Form centre, students have the space and facilities to embrace their creativity, independence and the academic challenges of their 2 year courses.
The Sixth Form remains very much at the heart of Hendon School and we share a common ethos and approach. We continue to be an inclusive school and so our 6th form provision is varied to ensure that we cater for a range of students and we are able to match future career and university ambition to their chosen A level/BTEC pathway. HS6 is full of opportunities and challenges which are exciting and rewarding and which truly integrate all students into the school community.
