In 2013 the Felixstowe Academy will open the doors of a new purpose built world class educational establishment.
Felixstowe Academy Sixth Form welcomes both existing students in the Felixstowe Academy and students from other establishments. We are an inclusive sixth form offering a broad curriculum which has a good balance between traditional A' Levels, BTECs and courses for students who wish to follow a one year link course.
Our aim is to give students the skills, opportunities and qualifications needed to progress and make the transition to the adult world successfully.
The Sixth Form strives to give you the opportunity to fulfill your potential both academically and as a young adult. As a sixth form student you will benefit from excellence in the classroom where your learning is of paramount importance. Staff will work with you to support your progress within each subject where you can expect to receive targeted advice on how to acheive your goals.
We pride ourselves on our focus on learning and our belief in the importance of recognising each student as an individual with different individual needs. We also believe that it is important the sixth form promotes the enjoyment of learning and we support the whole student through our guidance, mentoring and tutoring system.
Alongside academic successes we encourage you to think about how you can you can enrich your development as a young adult. Students 'pledge' to acheive successes in all walks of life from taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh direct entry gold scheme to supporting sixth form charity events. We want you to be students of choice for universities and employers and young adults who have developed the skills and interests that prepare them for life in the 21st century. We also want students to enjoy their time in the sixth form.
The institution will encompasse a number of facilities unsurpassed in their ability to offer exceptionally innovative, exciting and inspirational learning experiences.
Creative arts areas and their facilities will be used by both the student population and visiting professional arts groups and organisations. A science superlab will offer university standard learning opportunites and resources intended to support all learning styles and preferences. In addition vocational learning will enter an exciting new phase, courtesy of specialist state of the art catering, engineering and salon services designed specifically with todays fast moving working enviroments in mind.
Reinforcing the academy's commitment to 'new technologies' will be a bespoke Apple training centre run by professional IT specialists for the benefit of students and the community alike.
Students will also find additional support through the tutor system, approchable and caring staff as well as high quality guidance and careers advice.
Students are given the opportunity to widen their horizons through; team building days, charity events, CSLA, Duke of Edinburgh gold award,work experience, productions, drama, music, sport, field trips, visits, conferences, adopt a teacher, operation wallacea honduras trip, future leaders, working with local community, council and charity, young enterprise, shares for schools, learning mandarin, NVQ in football coaching with Ipswich football club, events management, performance and production, political and debating societies.
We had excellent results for summer 2011 which saw 67% of entries graded A*-C.
