Welcome to Southern Consortium Sixth Form
Welcome to the Southern Consortium Sixth Form. We are an ambitious academic sixth form whose aim is to ensure that every student fulfils their potential. We achieve this through excellent teaching and learning in the classroom and regular robust assessments throughout all courses which allows both teacher and student to measure the progress being made in chosen subjects and fill any gaps in knowledge and understanding.
Our excellent exam results at both A Level and Vocational Level 3 courses provides evidence of our success. National statistics show, that on average, students achieve more than half a grade higher at the Southern Consortium Sixth Form.
Progress rates to University are outstanding, with more than 85% of students leaving us to join University or start an Apprenticeship. Of those that progress to University, more than one in four attend Russell Group Universities. We have strong links with a number of high status Higher Education institutions, such as University of the Arts London and Kings College. Our students have the opportunity to participate in a number of prestigious aspiration programmes, such as K+, receiving mentoring regarding their chosen career paths.
We also appreciate that it is important that students are provided with opportunities to develop a wide range of skills that are valued by both Universities and employers alike. Our Enhancement programme includes Duke of Edinburgh Award, Young Enterprise, Sports Leaders, Paired Reading, as well as charitable activities, such as, First Give.
All students that join the Southern Consortium Sixth Form are supported by a well-staffed sixth form team. As well as your Form Tutor, you will also have regular contact with the sixth form Vice Principal and Assistant Head of Sixth Form, as well as the Higher Education Co-ordinator, and for some students, who require additional support, an Academic Mentor.
By joining the Southern Consortium Sixth Form you are making a solid investment in yourself and your future. I would encourage you to apply as early as possible, and attend one of our Open Events either in the autumn or summer term and view our state of the art facilities.
Within our consortium it is our aim to ensure all students have the opportunity to fulfil their post sixth form aspirations and, on commencing their sixth form careers, students are actively encouraged to explore their prospective pathways. We are incredibly proud of the provision of support we offer all our students to enrich their skills, knowledge and confidence to make informed choices about their future and minimise barriers to access Higher Education.
Personalised guidance is fundamental in our approach and the quality of this is a result of establishing strong links and partnerships with Russell Group and research-intensive universities. As such, our students are invited and selected to partake in a range of prestigious pre-university programmes, which have led to successful applications at competitive universities and, for some, conditional grade offers have been lowered. All students making applications are fully supported through the process by our Higher Education co-ordinators. The following pre-university programmes are a selection of what is on offer and that our students participate in:

The government has provided Barking and Dagenham, along with other London Boroughs, a bursary fund to provide to 16-19 year old students in education.
The Southern Consortium and other school sixth forms in Barking and Dagenham will distribute this fund equally to all students registered as in receipt of ‘free school meals’ on joining the sixth form.
A separate bursary is provided to students identified as living independently (in receipt of income support) and or with disabilities.
Each school site within the Southern Consortium has a dedicated sixth form academic mentor.
This member of staff supports students in the development of the skills that are required to succeed academically. These include the further development of literacy skills and independent study skill, as well as organisational skills and exam techniques.
Sixth Form Management Teams
Each school sixth form within the Southern Consortium have a specialist team of staff to ensure the effective day to day running of the sixth form.
