Welcome to Castleford Academy

Thank you for finding out more about Castleford Academy Sixth Form. We hope this information will help you. Leaving school and progressing onto further education is an exciting venture, the start of a completely new phase of your life.

Choosing where to study after the age of 16 is an important decision, but we're sure Castleford Academy offers the best possible learning environment for you to study our BTEC Extended Diploma courses. Our Academy offers something distinctive. Visitors frequently comment on the special atmosphere, made visible in our students, who behave with respect and tolerance to all members of the community.

Pastoral care is outstanding. We help students of all abilities to develop into confident, caring individuals. We attribute this to the opportunities presented to students from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, work experience, coaching and volunteering roles available.

There is also the opportunity for those pupils to re-sit English and maths at GCSE level if grade 4 is not achieved. We offer curriculum lessons taught by subject specialists.

We have a thriving sixth form who engage in school life, and are seen as role models to the rest of the school. If you are considering applying to Castleford Academy, we ask that you take time to read the information on our academy website, post 16 section where you will find details of our successes and opportunities.

We look forward to welcoming you to Castleford Academy Sixth Form. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any additional information.

About us

Castleford Academy caters for 11-19 year old students and we are based in a thriving and developing area of Wakefield. We have gained an excellent reputation as a high achieving Academy where all of our students are supported throughout their learning journey.

We pride ourselves on striving for excellence whilst supporting all those students who require extra help and support along the way.

Our Post 16 Resource has developed into an extremely successful provision catering for BTEC students wishing to enter the Higher Education or Apprenticeship system following their time with us.

Facilities available

Our Academy has some of the best sporting and fitness facilities in the area ranging from a brand new 3G astro turf, a sand based astro-turf, fitness suite and sports hall.

Within the Post 16 centre itself we have a range of teaching classrooms for our BTEC courses, 2 large and 1 smaller computer suites, a study area which all post 16 students have access to, as well as a Post 16 common room where students can work or relax in between lessons.

Students are encouraged to become involved in extra curricular activities within the Academy and our local feeder Primary School.

Additional support

As well as teacher support in lessons we offer a highly experienced and caring pastoral support system lead by friendly and approachable staff. Students have access to support at all times throughout the day should they need help.

We hold 'Drop Down Days' where students are off timetable and can participate in a wide range of activities which support their understanding of adulthood, the world of work and health. We aim to provide all of our students with the enrichment we believe they need as they move onwards from Post 16 into Higher Education, apprenticeships or work. Students will access one hour a week 'of the wider curriculum' as well as themed weeks and take part fund raising events.
