Welcome to The Abbey School

Our aim in the Sixth Form at The Abbey School is to support and encourage you to achieve high academic and vocational qualifications. This will provide you with the breadth of education that will prepare you to take your place with confidence in modern society. Commitment and hard work are the keys to success and we intend that the work you do in the Sixth Form will be challenging. Working hard in the Sixth Form is rewarded and we take great pride as we see more and more students taking up places in Higher Education and professional careers.

The Abbey School Sixth Form is a stimulating and supportive community in which there is a commitment to these aims: To promote a passion for learning and the achievement of excellence through challenge and excitement; To encourage integrity, hard work, self-discipline and teamwork; To develop each person’s intellectual, physical, creative and leadership potential; To value each individual and promote mutual respect, showing tolerance, understanding and sensitivity.

Whilst academic achievement is our priority and every encouragement and effort is made to realise each student’s potential, the Sixth Form has much to offer in terms of personal and social development. Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities—sport, drama, music, etc and are also expected to play a leadership role, to take the initiative and to organise activities in which they have an interest or talent and which they think will also be of interest to others.

In order to gain the most from Sixth Form life, it is important to have an enthusiastic and positive approach. As students move from Year 11 to Year 12, opportunities to develop their sense of responsibility and leadership are offered through the prefect system and Sixth Form Council, led by the Head Boy and Head Girl.

About us

Students applying for a place in Year 12 will be invited to attend the Sixth Form Open Evening, an annual event at the school held on the 15th November 2017. The event starts at 4:30pm and finishes at 7:00pm.

Applications for Year 12 must be completed using the Online Prospectus (kentchoices4u.com).

Applications will be downloaded from the Online Prospectus and the Assistant Headteacher for KS5 will seek feedback from subject teachers to check students’ suitability for their course choices.  Each student will be invited to interview with the Assistant Headteacher KS5 or Pastoral Head of 6th Form within the school to discuss their chosen learning pathway and ongoing studies within the school. All offers of a place in Year 12 will be made on condition of students meeting the school entry requirements.

For external applicants, a reference from their previous school will be sought to check suitability in regard to the students’ chosen subject choices.  Students will be invited for interview and offered a tour of the subject areas they wish to study.  At interview learning pathways and course choices are discussed.  All offers of a place in Year 12 will be made on condition of students meeting the school entry requirements.

All students hold conditional offers until receipt of their GCSE results, following confirmation of their results places on appropriate courses are offered according to the entry requirements stated.  Guidance will be offered to students who wish to consider a change of learning pathway or subject choice following receipt of their results.

The final date for applications is March 31st 2018. Applications after this date will be considered for Football Academy students taking part in the 2nd trials in the Easter holidays in 2018 and on an individual basis when emailed to Mr R Clarke at rclarke@abbeyschoolfaversham.co.uk.
