Welcome to Mascalls Academy
Students from both within Mascalls Academy and other schools are invited to apply to the Sixth Form .We would expect students interested in joining Sixth Form to have attended the Post -16 Options/ Sixth Form Open Evening on 11th October 2017, where students have the opportunity to speak to subject teachers and find out about the options available to them.
Students will be able to make applications from Wednesday, 11th October 2017.
The deadline for applications to Mascalls Sixth Form is Friday 15th December 2017.
Entry to Mascalls Academy Sixth Form requires a minimum of five subjects at level 9 - 5, including a minimum of Level 4 in English and Maths as this is the lowest that can be achieved without having to retake the examination. However, students who have not obtained English and/or Maths at GCSE can access programmes which will include the continued study of English and/or Maths until a minimum Level 4 has been obtained, or a progressive qualification has been achieved, if appropriate. Please see our Prospectus for more details on the study pathways available, which can be accessed from the Sixth Form section of our website www.mascallsacademy.org.uk
Individual courses all have additional entry criteria, as stated in the course description in the Prospectus, and as published in our subject pages downloadable from the Sixth Form section of our website, post Open Evening.
We will be holding an External Applicant Morning on Tuesday, 27th February 2018 between 9am and 11am, where students from other Schools who would like to join Mascalls Academy Sixth Form can discuss their application with members of the Sixth Form team.
For all applicants, we hold an induction programme each year and for 2018 entry, this will be held from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th July 2018. We expect that all serious candidates will attend the three day programme, during which time students will experience lessons in all of their proposed subjects, attend study skills sessions and undertake preparatory Sixth Form orientation. Work for all subjects will be set for completion over the summer and formally assessed in September.
All places offered are conditional upon GCSE grades and our published Admissions Policy. Ultimately, however, the key criteria is that the student will achieve success and benefit from the courses they have chosen.
Late applications in Summer 2018 will be considered providing that a paper application is submitted to our Sixth Form Support Assistant firstname.lastname@example.org and evidence of GCSE grades achieved is also provided.
