Welcome to Dane Court Grammar School
We are a mixed, selective secondary school, with about 1,200 students and we are also a Teaching School. Dane Court is a lovely place to learn and work.
The spacious site is near the centre of Broadstairs, a picturesque town on the East Kent coast. The recently completed £20 million rebuilding programme means the school has state of the art facilities which are truly suited to learning in the 21st Century.
We seek to develop the academic potential of every student, through excellent teaching and rigorous support. We aim for every student to leave the school after seven years with the best possible qualifications, in order to enter a top university, prior to a fulfilling career. We also aim to ensure that every student develops the integrity and the confidence to be effective and happy adults.
Finally, our Ofsted inspection in June 2007 confirmed that we are an 'outstanding school' - in every category. Whilst we are all delighted by this, we know that there are many challenges ahead and that there is still much to do. Dane Court is not only a lovely place to learn - it is an exciting place to be
We are a mixed sixth form community of over 300 students, offering the very successful International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the IB Career-Related Performance (IBCP) as well as a programme of extra-curricular activities and opportunities for leadership within the school. Many students also join us in the sixth form from other local schools as well as from abroad and are fully integrated into the life of the school.
The Dane Court sixth form experience includes extensive participation in extra-curricular activities; something that is encouraged hugely at the heart of both the IBDP and IBCP. Visits to New York, Iceland, Namibia, France, Germany and Stratford upon Avon
are also available for students. There are field trips and extensive cultural excursions to support the curriculum for all Year 12 students.
Dane Court sixth form is a thriving section of the school with its own identity, and yet sixth form students are also very much involved with younger pupils through the House system. We have worked hard to earn our 'outstanding' reputation (Ofsted 2007) and a visit to the school to meet staff and students will, I hope, leave you in no doubt that our reputation is well deserved.
The average points score of Dane Court IB students this year is the equivalent of three A* grades at A level. This is really helpful for you to know as you make the decision regarding where to study in September as increasingly you will be competing in a challenging job market.
The vast majority of Dane Court students who applied to university have been offered places at their first choice university and all who have applied to university have now been offered a place. Even those who slightly missed their expected grades have been accepted by universities
