Welcome to Hartsdown Academy

Dear Year 11 Student,

At Hartsdown Academy we are passionate about our students achieving and developing the best possible qualifications and skills to enable them to fulfil their career aspirations.

It is imperative that we offer a curriculum at Key Stage 5 that prepares our students for the global economic challenges and competition that they will face throughout their working life. We are convinced that the IBCP can do just that.

The International Baccalaureate Career Programme is more than just an education. It is a programme of study that will provide a well-rounded education for post 16 students at Hartsdown Academy from September 2018. The programme is an internationally recognised course, followed by students around the world. It seeks to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young adults who are prepared for the modern world.

The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

The next step in education is a scary one -you need to choose the right subjects but it is equally important to choose the right place to study.

In Sixth Form this approach usually takes the form of small group teaching led by our expert staff who are always on hand to help. Their commitment, enthusiasm and expertise engages, inspires and challenges all pupils.

In addition to the excellent teaching and learning, we will also be offering the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Which helps to promote confident communication, a healthy lifestyle, critical thinking and independent thought—all absolutely key if you are to make the most of the academic curriculum and go on to lead a happy and successful life.

The sixth form facilities are second to none with its own building comprising of a comfortable communal room, sofas, kitchen and showers as well as study rooms with banks of computers.

Our small tutor groups will enable you to build excellent relationships with your peers and teachers. You will receive academic support, one-to-one mentoring, help and advice with UCAS applications.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new acdemic year.
Miss J Gipson
