WELCOME TO THE SKINNERS' KENT ACADEMY

We are part of the Skinners family of schools and provide an all ability  non-fee paying independent education in stunning new £21.4 million facilities based on a culture of high standards and aspirations, active participation and an emotionally rich learning environment.  In our sixth form students have the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Careers Related Programme, a flexible, progressive and challenging programme that looks to address the needs of students engaged in careers-related studies.

About us

Although not specifically about the sixth form the film above gives you an idea of the facilities at The Skinners’ Kent Academy. It  is an independent non fee-paying school funded by the Department for Education and supported fully by its lead sponsor The Skinners’ School, a grammar school for boys and the Skinners’ Company, and its co-sponsors West Kent College and Kent County Council.

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is founded on the principles of a culture of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich learning environment and an inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported.

The main aim of the academy is to provide the highest quality of education for students from 11 - 18. However, the Academy is more than a new type of school. The Academy aims to raise and reflect aspirations within the local community and provide educational, social and economic benefits for all.

It is founded on the following key principles:

A culture of high standards and high aspirations

The Academy is an exciting place of learning, offering an outstanding education tailored to meet  individual needs. A spirit of entrepreneurship is encouraged, in order that students gain an understanding of the benefits that business and social enterprise can offer to themselves and the local wider community.

A culture of participation

Good citzenship and community engagement are encouraged, recognised and celebrated. Students develop confidence in their  problem solving abilities. They also develop a sense of initiative, leadership skills and the determination to see ideas through to completion. The Academy encourages students to take risks, accept failures and try different approaches in order to help prepare them for a rapidly changing world and meet the expectations required for work in the 21st Century.

An emotionally rich learning enviroment

The foundations of a happy and fulfilled life are developed and nurtured by strong supportive relationships between students, staff and peers. Students are balanced, articulate people, who have a strong sense of self-worth and compassion for others.

All who study, work or visit the Academy feel safe, welcome and valued, irrespective of ability, belief, gender or ethnicity. All students and their families have a sense of worth, identity, aspiration and belonging.
