Welcome to Highsted Grammar School
Welcome to our on-line prospectus and thank you for considering Highsted Grammar School. Here we hope to offer you a snapshot of the many activities that together make up our school community. As a grammar school we are proud to build on traditional values and standards to prepare our students for their future in a highly technological society.
From our students, we expect the highest standards of personal conduct, the best possible academic performance and a real commitment to the wider life of the school. In return, we will help each individual to develop their talents to the full by working in partnership with parents, by providing a stimulating yet demanding approach to teaching and learning, and by presenting challenging opportunities through a wealth of enrichment activities beyond the classroom. In other words, we aim to provide young women and, in the Sixth Form, young men with the skills and qualities they need to serve society and the international community.
We expect our students to leave school fully equipped for the next stage in their education; to be confident, positive and creative in their outlook on life; and to be at ease with themselves and others. If you share these values, please come and visit us at our Post-16 Information Evening on 12th November 2015: 6.30pm-8.00pm where we will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.
In choosing to join our Sixth Form, you will have access to the widest choice of AS & A levels in the area. Choose from traditional subjects such as English, History and Science; subjects you may not have the chance to study before such as Psychology or Sociology; or choose from a selection of A Levels at our partnership schools such as Health & Social Care or the Certificate in Financial Studies. The choice is vast and you can make yours knowing that you benefit from the best specialist teaching on offer, the best examination results in the area and the best two years of your life!
The Sixth Form is a time of change, as you start to think about striking out on your own. We are proud of our caring community where Sixth Form students not only look after each other, but also look after younger members of the school. Throughout your time with us, you will be supported by a team of specialist Sixth Form tutors, skilled in meeting your needs and committed to helping you to make the best choices for your future.
Higher Education and Careers
The Sixth Form is a gateway to your future. You will receive specialist careers advice from qualified and experienced careers advisors and guidance on what universities have to offer you. You can use the research facilities in school, visit universities, listen to visiting speakers and take part in mock interviews. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend talks given by university Admissions Tutors and Departmental Heads, as well as talks from industry and commerce representatives. Now is an exiting time to be learning and we do hope you will consider the opportunities and career prospects studying at Highsted Grammar School offers.
