Welcome to Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School
Thank you for considering the Sixth Form at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School. We are very proud of our Sixth Form programme and our impressive record of results, which has seen students enjoying academic success across the curriculum. However Sixth Form is not just about results. At Queen Elizabeth’s our students have access to a unique range of opportunities to develop their sporting, cultural and outside interests. In addition, they are able to develop leadership skills by making a significant contribution to the running of the school. Sixth Form students participate in a wide range of enrichment activities including a very successful Debating Society, Volunteering, Work Shadowing Placements and the Physics Olympiad to name but a few.
We have over two hundred students in our Sixth Form who are well-supported by highly qualified, teaching staff and an excellent pastoral system, jointly administered by the Sixth Form leaders and 12 dedicated form tutors who all ensure that each and every student is fully encouraged to achieve his or her potential. Students who have studied here since year 7 are joined by students from all over the local area. This adds a new dimension to the Sixth Form, bringing very welcome experience from a variety of school backgrounds. Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School equips all its students with the skills they need to progress to the next stage in their career.
At Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School we pride ourselves on our excellent academic standards as well as our ability to offer our students the opportunity to develop personal and social strengths and skills.
Founded in 1527, our co-educational school has continued to embrace the traditions of a 'Grammar School' education whilst developing a positive attitude towards change. We work hard to offer the very best education possible to our students and are continually striving to improve our curriculum, learning environment and resources. Ofsted judged us as Outstanding in 2015 with particular praise for the Sixth Form. The Sixth Form prepares you professionally for your future. You will receive high quality careers advice and guidance on jobs and careers after ‘A’ levels. You will have access to careers research facilities in school, be able to listen to visiting speakers from industry and university, take part in mock interviews and visit Higher Education Conferences and institutions. We work in partnership with you to equip you with all that you need to approach the next stage of your future with confidence.
Please have a look at our specific subject information guides and in the Sixth Form section of the school website for further information.
The Sixth Form and Humanities Centre, which was officially opened in September 2014 offers a vital bridge between school and university, work or apprenticeships, ensuring that every student has access to high quality teaching and learning as well as opportunities to develop independent study skills and careers enrichment advice. The key features of the new building include:
A social space - large common room with self-catering facilities for students
Private study centre, specifically designated for Sixth Form use
8 classrooms, which form a new 'Humanities' Centre for whole school use
The building is located in the heart of the school with easy access to all the facilities the school has to offer.
It is our aim to continue this improvement with the addition of a 240 seat auditorium, which will be used as a performance space, debating chamber, lecture theatre, cinema and assembly hall. As a school we are committed to building for the future.
Mr P Larter - Assistant Head and Head of Sixth Form.
