Welcome to Beacon Academy (Beacon Community College)
- A vibrant and successful school with high aspirations for all.
- A Sixth Form where students consistently achieve high grades on a particularly large number of A Level and equivalent cources.
- A dedicated site with the feel of a small sixth form college.
We recognise the need to be world class and our students rise to that challenge. We are committed to ensure that every young person enters adulthood with self-belief, and the ability and desire to make the world a better place.
We aim to develop the whole person from their academic studies through to wider activities and, with our support sand encouragement, anything is possible.
Beacon students are highly successful in all types of national examinations, GCSE, A Level and vocational courses. Our Sixth Form students achieve places in top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Past students have gone on to high achieving, wide-ranging careers. We are proud of them and we know that they are proud to have been part of Beacon.
Whether you are an existing Beacon student or a student at another establishment you are very welcome to join the Sixth Form at Beacon Community College. We offer a broad curriculum and aim to meet your needs. All of our courses are at level 3 which means that in order to progress onto them, you will normally need to have obtained five grades at C or above at GCSE. Once you have done so, there is a place for you whether you are interested in following traditional A levels or vocational BTEC Level courses. We can even support you if you need to re-take your English or your Maths GCSE.
We have a very successful Sixth Form with students achieving excellent results. Every year our A-E pass rate is above the national average; we also always get above 40% achieving A and B grades and BTEC results are excellent. Our Ofsted 2013 confirmed that we offer excellent opportunities for students while also achieving excellent results.
Beacon Sixth Form offers you the best of opportunities – we have a dedicated site, experienced and committed staff, specialist facilities and excellent ICT facilities. While we aim for you to reach your highest academic potential we also want to offer the opportunity to broaden your curriculum by offering opportunities throughout your time in the Sixth Form. We have a traditional Wednesday afternoon slot for you to take part in a wide range of opportunities from sporting activities to organising your own club/society. We want you to contribute to the whole life of the centre to make it a vibrant and an exciting place, and last but not least we want you to enjoy yourself!
You will be expected to work hard, to show commitment to achieve success. You will work in partnership with others – with staff to ensure that you are reaching your targets; with your peers in sharing your experiences; and with the wider community in supporting others. Staff will also work closely with your parents to help you achieve your potential. At the end of your time at Beacon you will leave with skills and interests that will provide you for life in the 21st century.
Please make the most of the opportunities to find out more about life in the Sixth Form and do ask if there is anything else you need to know.
