City College offers a wide range of full-time practical and industry-focused courses, which provide the key skills that students need for a successful future. We are proud that last year, over 94% of our students progressed into employment, secured a place at university, started an Apprenticeship or went on to further study after completing their course.

Our Study Programmes are individually tailored to you, to give you the best chance of future success. Alongside your chosen vocational qualification we will enhance your essential employability skills, such as team-working, problem-solving and business awareness, whilst ensuring that you achieve good standards of English and mathematics. Encouraging enterprise skills is also a major focus at the College and you will have the opportunity to work with our Entrepreneur-inResidence to develop business ideas of your own.

Our students engage in a huge range of social activities, such as our cup-winning sports teams, charity fundraising, international travel, enrichment and participation in our Student Council. Being a City College student really will keep you busy!

About us

For over 100 years, City College Brighton and Hove has ensured that the very best in further education is available in Brighton. In the last decade, the College has undergone an £8.2 million refurbishment programme providing a new Library Resource Centre, Refectory and Training Restaurant in the centre of the city. The College has recently launched its Hair & Beauty Training Salons, City Revival, offering an excellent value service to local customers while our Careers Team work with internal students to progress as well as helping local residents through the National Careers Service. Aside from our central campus on Pelham Street in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine, there is the City College East campus on Wilson Avenue which hosts our Visual and Performing Arts programme as well as Music Technology and the Trades. Motor Vehicle students at City College East learn in a new state-of-the-art workshop while our Adult Education courses provide a wide range of recreational and training opportunities for local people. 

City College has over 1,000 full-time and part-time staff – this makes us one of the top ten employers in the city. Staff includes lecturers, business/student support staff, caretakers, administrators and management. Every year, 3,000 full-time, 7,000 part time, almost 400 Higher Education and 400 14-16 year old students as well as many international and European students choose City College as their place of further and higher education training. An important part of our work is delivering Foundation Degrees in collaboration with the University of Brighton. In addition, the College provides training to over 2,000 businesses via its ‘City Business Skills’ department which focuses on employer training needs. Offering over 800 courses from basic level right through to business and postgraduate training, City College is working with its partners to develop the workforce of the future.

Facilities available

Facilities include the Library Resource Centre, Central Cafe, Training Restaurant (The Gallery) and the College's Hair & Beauty training salon, City Revival, offers an excellent value service to local customers. Aside from the Central Campus, the City College East campus on Wilson Avenue hosts the College's Performing Arts programme as well as Childcare and Music Technology. Motor Vehicle students at City College East learn in a state-of-the-art workshop which was opened in 2011.

A new Construction & Trades Centre at City College East , designed to be a leading educational and training hub for Brighton & Hove’s next generation of construction workers, is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2017.

    • Our East Campus is surrounded by beautiful Brighton countryside and just minutes from the bustling and cosmopolitan Brighton Marina, with its shops, restaurants, galleries, cinema, bowling alley and much more.

      The East Campus has benefitted from much investment and houses the following courses in top-of the range facilities: Acting & Dance, Childcare, Multi-Trades, Health & Social Care, Motor Vehicle, Music, Public Services and Sport.

      City College’s new Technology Centre

      City College East Campus will be the location of a new £9 million Technology Centre. Expected to be completed in the 2016/17 academic year, this exciting new facility will be a leading educational and training hub for the next generation of construction workers. The centre has been specially designed so that students learning the different trades will be able to work together and follow each other through the construction process, mirroring true construction site conditions.
