You will find our Sixth Form to be a friendly, supportive environment that offers students outstanding pastoral care and guidance to ensure they develop the skills and self confidence needed to achieve their potential.
Our team of well-qualified and dedicated staff ensure that all students have the opportunity to flourish in a caring, nurturing environment. At Bishop Milner we have high expectations of all our students as evidenced not only in the excellent examination results but also in the all round outstanding young people that move on to higher education or employment.
We are a Catholic college with a family atmosphere of support and good relationships and all students joining us become equally valued members of our family.
Our College has a broad curriculum and our offer includes a wide range of Level 3 qualifications including a large number of A Level subjects, along with BTEC National courses. We also provide the opportunity for resits at Level 2 in key subjects such as English and Mathematics. All students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of learning activities to help them to become thoughtful individuals fully equipped for both university and employment.

Key dates for 2016 admissions are as follows
Sixth Form Open Evening : Thursday 22nd October 2015
This is an opportunity for all prospective Sixth Form students to visit the college and find out what Bishop Milner has to offer. Students and parents / carers will be able to: discuss the range of subjects and courses on offer, tour the college and its exceptional Sixth Form facilities and chat to current Sixth Form students.
To gain entry to Bishop Milner Sixth Form, students are required to have secured a minimum of 5 A* - C GCSE grades (or equivalent); ideally including English and Mathematics. Students requiring GCSE resits in English or Mathematics will be catered for. We reserve the right to set entry requirements for courses on an individual basis.
Application Deadline : Friday 11th December 2015
Application Forms for Sixth Form Admission (September 2016) are available from the college website (www.bmilner.dudley.sch.uk) and must be submitted to the college by Friday 11th December 2015. Alternatively, external applicants are welcome to apply via the UCAS Progress system.

Interviews : January / February 2016
All applicants will be invited to attend an interview with a member of the Sixth Form Team.
Provisional Offer Letters : February 2016
Following interviews, all applicants will receive a letter notifying them of the outcome of their application and any subsequent conditions attached to the offer. At this time students will also be invited to Sixth Form Induction.
Induction : July 2016
To welcome both new and existing members of our college community into Sixth Form life, there will be an Induction event in July 2016 for students to meet their tutors, other students and receive further information relating to Bishop Milner Sixth Form.
Enrolment : September 2016
Enrolment Interviews will take place in the first week of the academic year where subject choices and course selections will be finalised in light of GCSE examination results. Before studies commence, exciting activities will be provided to allow students to interact with new friends.
Our Sixth Form students have access to dedicated accommodation that provides a balance between study and recreational space.
The Sixth Form Centre has recently undergone a major re-development to provide our students with a dedicated study suite with access to computers and support staff throughout the college day. In addition to this we also have two further rooms for students to study, including our ‘Futures Room’ containing a wealth of university and careers information.
Sixth Form Cafe
Students have access to a wide range of hot and cold food served throughout the college day. Menus have been designed following consultation with students and are regularly reviewed by the Head Student Team. There is wifi access available for personal devices and a television that provides students with music and news bulletins.
Life at Bishop Milner is about so much more than learning in the classroom…
There are a wide range of exciting trips and visits on offer, including an annual ski trip to Italy and a university residential.
The Head Student Team arrange an annual Alton Towers Scarefest visit, as well as a Sixth Form Leavers Prom, a Senior Citizen Christmas Party, charitable fundraising opportunities and other social events.
Students at Bishop Milner take part in a wide range of activities, competing against other schools and colleges. Annually, we compete in the Lord Mayor’s Mega Quiz at University of Birmingham against other top institutions. We are also hoping to hold other competitive events against other local Sixth Forms.
As part of our extensive Sixth Form Induction Programme, students are invited to attend a Team Building Day. This takes place upon the commencement of Year 12, with students taking part in activities such as paintballing, canoeing, raft building, archery and a high ropes adventure as well as a range of wider adventurous tasks.
Sport and Recreation
Bishop Milner is strongly geared towards stimulating and promoting the enjoyment of physical activity, especially with the opening of a new £1.1 million sports hall. A voluntary programme of sport and recreational activities provides a variety of opportunities to participate at your own level of performance.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The college are proud to offer all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through an exciting and challenging range of activities, skills and expeditions. Our staff who run the award hold the appropriate national governing body award and are highly experienced in the safe delivery and planning of the expedition element of the award.
CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
This qualification nurtures the skills and knowledge needed when supporting teaching and learning in a school. It also covers how to work with others to achieve shared objectives when supporting the learning of individual or groups of pupils.
In addition to the challenge of developing and refining your independent learning skills, an integral part of Sixth Form life is taking responsibility for managing your own studies. The college offers a comprehensive support package, delivered by specialist Study Supervisors. Access to members of the support team will be available throughout the college day. Form Tutors meet with students on a daily basis. In addition to the Form Tutor, you will benefit from the input of the wider Sixth Form leadership team.
A Post 16 independent personal advisor is available to support students throughout their time at Bishop Milner. Students are also supported with regular advice and guidance from the Sixth Form leadership team and academic staff.
During your time in Sixth Form you will be invited to attend a range of University Masterclasses/Experience events, as well as wider careers workshops. Students are also invited to take part in university residential events and have a wide selection of opportunities offered to them by the Sixth Form Team. As a college, we participate in the HE+ scheme delivered in conjunction with Girton College, Cambridge.
All Year 12 students undertake a one week Work Experience placement in July, which will be arranged earlier in the year with support available from the Sixth Form Team. There are also opportunities for Sixth Form students to engage in a work placement/mentoring programme for part of each week, depending on their timetable.
Sixth Form Dress Code
There is an expectation that all students wear clean and smart clothing that is appropriate for the college environment whatever the weather. You must dress in a respectable and presentable manner that is inoffensive. If students are participating in any sporting activities, we expect those students to have a change of appropriate clothing for those sessions. Any student who fails to follow these guidelines will be challenged by members of staff on an individual basis.
