Welcome to Wymondham College

I am delighted to be able to introduce you to The Sixth Form at Wymondham College.

We offer a very enriching and enjoyable Post-16 education, combining high academic standards with an extensive extra-curricular programme. Our Sixth Form is a unique community that provides an ideal stepping-stone from school to higher education and the world of work.

The Lincoln Sixth Form Centre provides outstanding facilities for boarders and day students alike and helps to create an atmosphere that is more university college than secondary school, underpinned by Wymondham College’s commitment to academic excellence and high quality pastoral care.

We invite everyone who joins our Sixth Form to become fully involved in College life.

We have College teams in all the major team sports. College drama productions are impressive events, drawing audiences from all over Norfolk, and we hold regular music concerts where our orchestras, bands and choirs are able to showcase their talents.

Our ‘Wymondham Life’ after school programme offers a wide variety of activities and we actively encourage our Sixth Form students to take significant positions of responsibility within the College. Our wide-ranging international links provide an exciting dimension to many students’ Sixth Form experience, offering opportunities to travel to many parts of the world and to meet and work with students from many countries.

The diversity provided through our international dimension is an important part of our ethos.

Our examination results regularly place us amongst the highest performing state comprehensive schools in the country. As a result the overwhelming majority of students progress to their first choice university or career of their choice. Our staff are committed to equip you with the necessary skills to prepare you for adult life.

The Sixth Form Futures Programme, delivered by your Personal Tutor, will help you through your two years of Sixth Form and help you choose your future options in either higher education or the world of work.

Another unique feature of our Sixth Form is the support available from the Lincoln Fellow, usually a recent graduate of either Oxford or Cambridge, who has a specific role in enriching the academic life of Lincoln Hall and helping students make the best choices for Higher Education. Sixth Form is often regarded as one of the most enjoyable times in education. Wymondham College will offer you a unique, distinctive and world-class Sixth Form education.

About us

Year after year students leave the College with superb grades having had exhilarating and often life-changing experiences.

With over 450 students in the Sixth Form from a wide range of schools, there are tremendous opportunities for you to meet and live and work with a dynamic range of fellow students. Two years living and working here offers the perfect preparation for university life or for the responsibilities of the world of work. The nature of the community here means that you will develop very high levels of independence, personal organisation and those critical social skills that make such a difference to the opportunities life can offer you.

In a typical year, over 90% of students will leave to attend the university of their choice. Indeed, over 62% of College students achieved A*/B Grades at A Level with over 81% gaining A-C grades overall.

Our experience in delivering excellence across a wide range of academic subjects and the proven quality of our academic staff are second to none. The teachers here really enjoy working with students and you will enjoy working with them.

After the results this summer Wymondham College was named as the highest performing state school in the region and the recently published 2015 Sunday Times school league table have rated the College as one of the top 50 highest performing state schools in the country! Additionally the Sunday Times puts Wymondham College in the top 200 of all schools nationally, including selective schools.

But Wymondham College is more than achieving outstanding academic success. We've just been awarded World Class School status, in recognition of the extraordinary opportunities offered to our students and the work they do beyond the classroom, the only school in East Anglia to achieve this recognition.

This quality mark has been introduced to acknowledge the fact that many secondary schools in England already judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted have moved beyond this judgement. The Quality Mark seeks to establish whether schools have achieved the much harder feat of imbuing students with outstanding characteristics. The assessment process for the Mark is innovative and provides a unique insight into the impact schools have on their students. The whole process is led by students too.

Another great reason to make Wymondham College your 6th Form of choice.

Additional support

The Learning Support Department is well equipped with networked computers and up-to-date SENd software, along with a wide range of resources to support the additional needs of students.

As well as for lessons the room is used for extra-curricular activities such as 6th Form mentored reading; spelling; prep; catch up; EAL tutorials; and individual assessment, target setting or reviewing with the Special Needs Co-ordinator. Support agency meetings take place here to enable multi-agency support for our students if necessary.
