Welcome to BIMM

BIMM, The British and Irish Modern Music Institute, has colleges in five cities where music matters most – London, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol and Dublin – and is proud to be the largest and leading provider of contemporary music education in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Our five BIMM colleges have over 50 years’ experience between them in helping students launch successful careers in the music industry.

We offer a broad range of Higher and Further Education music courses – including BA Honours Degrees, nationally accredited Diplomas, Post Graduate Teaching Certificates and options for full-time and part-time study. Our professional highly vocational and real-world courses include studies in guitar, bass, drums, vocals, songwriting, music production, music business and event management.

The first BIMM college opened in 2001 in Brighton. This vibrant and creative city was chosen as a base because of its access to gigs, studios, record labels and artists. BIMM Bristol opened in 2008, and in 2010, Tech Music School London (TMS), joined the BIMM Group, which had been teaching music in the heart of the world’s music capital since 1983, and now operates as BIMM London. In 2011 BIMM Dublin was established, followed by BIMM Manchester – in 2013. Finally our newest centre, BIMM Berlin, opened in 2015.

    • The music scene in Manchester is legendary, and BIMM’s newest campus puts you right at the heart of it.

It’s an ultra-modern, 12,000ft2 facility with superb teaching spaces and a stunning common room – and the city’s biggest music venues just a stone’s throw away.

The College’s contemporary interior was designed by the same architect responsible for The Hacienda, the iconic venue that inspired Manchester’s music revolution in the 80s and 90s. It’s just around the corner from BIMM – and other famous venues like Gorilla, the Ritz, Sound Control and the Academies are right on our doorstep too.

Naturally then, BIMM Manchester is an exciting place to be, and there’s real opportunity here for top musical talent. But there’s hard work to be done too – so our facilities are geared up to get the very best out of you every day.

All eight of our teaching spaces are equipped with full PA systems and industry-quality backline equipment, including vintage and modern instruments for all specialisms. We also have a state-of-the-art Mac suite with all the latest software for our Music Production students.

There’s no recording studio on site here. Instead, we go one better. Through connections with Blueprint Studios, we’re able to offer free rehearsal spaces nearby – at a complex used by local heroes, Elbow.
