Welcome to Magna Academy

Magna Academy Poole will aim to provide each individual student with the keys to a successful life, as well as to give them a distinct advantage over other young people. By the time they finish their
education at the age of 18 each student at Magna Academy Poole will be expected to have:
• Achieved their personal best possible qualifications.
• Developed skills relevant to success in today’s world.
• High aspirations: High levels of self-worth with the belief that they will have the ability to achieve academically, personally and socially
• Active engagement in their learning, showing enthusiasm, as well as a desire to learn new things and a willingness to take positive, healthy steps towards their future.
As well as their academic work we encourage all students to be fully involved in the life of the school. We believe leadership and teamwork are important skills for all young adults and we are keen to provide opportunities to develop these invaluable skills as well as making a contribution to the wider community. Students find our approach an appropriate bridge between the tight structure of GCSE and the freedoms of university life and we pride ourselves on the supportive atmosphere we generate. We encourage students both academically and socially, and equip Sixth Formers with the skills, knowledge and qualifications to guarantee success in higher education and the world of work. We offer a diverse and varied curriculum, offering a wide range of A Level and BTEC National courses, a successful mentoring programme and a number of inspiring initiatives to encourage ambition and increase aspirations. Our suite of A Levels and BTEC is supported by a growing relationship with other local Sixth Forms and Education providers who compliment our own extensive subject knowledge and specialist facilities. As senior students, Sixth Formers play an important role as leaders in the School and have many opportunities to work with younger pupils through our house, prefect and mentoring systems, and also to immerse themselves in a varied programme of extra-curricular activities. Students take responsible for their own learning within a challenging environment and will be encouraged to think for themselves and to develop the self-discipline and rigour needed for success at Advanced Level and beyond.
Magna Academy Poole has benefitted from a £15 million rebuild project together with a £1.3 million
investment in the IT infrastructure. This state of the art building provides exceptional facilities for our
Year 12 and 13 students. Sixth Formers have access to a designated Sixth Form computer room, an ideal working environment in which students make full use of their private study lessons, so important in determining final examination grades. A contemporary, bright and expansive Sixth Form combines areas for relaxing and socialising as well as opportunities to work independently in designated study rooms containing a range IT equipment. The Academy also boasts specialist Art and IT teaching
rooms together with Green Screen technology and Stop Motion animation software.
